Deus Ex doesn't scale to WS
Hi, I'm a new member of the forum here-- I just recent acquired a Viewsonic VX2025WM 20.1" WS. I love it-- I also recently reinstalled DX. I made the appropriate edits to the User.ini and DeusEx.ini, specifying FOV and resolution, but the game doesn't seem to set that resolution-- it remains at 640x480 and interpolates everything so it looks awful.
Am I missing something?
Thanks

Deus Ex doesn't scale to WS
Hello ... welcome to the WSGF ... 8)
IMHO ... probably the best game ever ... :D ... anyway ...
What res are you trying to run it at ?
Can your desktop display the res you are trying to run the game at ?
Have you patched the game to the latest version ?
Sorry but I have to ask this next question ... as many have got this wrong ...
Are you sure you have the X and the Y the correct way around ?

Ok the graphics are a little dated but the game ROCKS !!!
You need to play it for a while ... at least get through the first mission ... without doubt the best single player gameplay to date.
If you don't mind the graphics looking a little dated I would say definitely give it another go .... take your time as it is not a run and gun game ... it requires some thinking.
BTW ... I am talking about Deus Ex and not Deus Ex - Invisible War
Invisible war was really really bad.

DX is my favorite game of all time--even though the graphics are dated, it still looks very nice for its age.
At any rate-- 1680x1050, display can indeed use that resolution (native)
The game is GOTY edition, version 1112 or whatever--it's the latest i could find. X and Y are set correctly.
I agree that DX:IW was inferior to DX, it wasn't awful, but offered almost none of the same RPG/storyline elements that made the original so awesome..broke my heart.

I'm willing to bet that you accidentally set a resolution that your monitor does not support. Doing this will make the game run at a fail-safe resolution of 640x480. Can you post the contents of your deusex.ini file?

Hey everyone, long time browser first time poster. I just received my VX2025WM and I too cannot get Deus Ex (GOTY Edition) to run at 1680x1050. This monitor's native resolution is 1680x1050. I edited both DeusEx.ini and User.ini with the relevant changes in the Detailed Report but it always defaults to 640x480.

I just shrugged if off since I was playing it at the time on my old trintron. Haven't touched it since.
I'd recommend patching...see if that gets you anywhere.

Sorry it's so long but I didn't know what exact bits to post.
EDIT: I was going to patch Deus Ex, but my version matched the one used in the Detailed Report.
EDIT2: Code removed.

I copied and pasted your text into my deuxex.ini file. All I changed was the CD path line. The game ran fine for me at 1680x1050.
Just recently, someone else with a Viewsonic VX2025wm said they were having trouble with 1680x1050. I wonder if there's a problem with the monitor.
Just as an experiment, try setting the color depth to 32 bits. The line for this is right below the resolution line. Also, can you remove your .ini file contents now? I don't need to look at them any more.

I tried setting the Depth to 32 still the same. Would it have anything to do with my video card (FX 5200)? It's pretty old and doesn't really run anything well at native res. I run America's Army at 1680x1050 to see if my monitor can handle it and it runs fine (well it's a slideshow but at least the res works).
