I run this game at 1920x1200 and it's absolutely amazing. Note: I find that sometimes if I change the resolution in-game, the HUD gets cut off. Restarting the game after making the resolution/aspect change fixes it.

I'll post a screenie - show me a good host.

You should add Counter-Strike: Source to the Certified list. It acts exactly the same as HL2 and widescreen support is perfect.

Although if you want, I can do a detailed report for it. I'm also planning to do a detailed report for Oblivion. I'm bored. I can do World of Warcraft too. And a bunch of other games, but I'd rather do these three first since they are easy because they all support WS great.

Excellent report, Cranky.

Calculated grade: Certified
In terms of widescreen, this game does everything right, and is the game that all other widescreen-aware games should be compared to.

And (rumor has it) we have Apple to thank. :)

As it turns out Gabe Newell has been an Apple Cinema Display user/afficionado since the first 22" displays came out (around the year 2000, I believe). While the original HL came out before this (1998), when it came time to make HL 2 it is said that the widescreen aspect of the cinema displays was one of the major reasons Gabe mandated proper widescreen support from the ground up. Not only had pc widescreen displays started to become more common, he wanted the ability to play HL 2 in widescreen on his cinema display!

2650x1600, 2x AA

Post by gatzje »

I just tried Half Life 2 on my new 30" Dell with a sweet Nvidia SLI card.

2650x1600 with 2xAA was smooth and looked great!

Note, this is just for the demo. I have not bought the full version yet.

Also, screen capture cored the demo, so I have nothing to post, sorry.

Yup, I don't have SLI and even then HL2 runs like water.

Ep1 is slightly slower because of HDR but it's satisfactory.

Oops, 2560x1600

Post by gatzje »

My bad, this 30 inch Dell runs at 2560x1600 native.

Also, I dug into my graphics card and it may not be SLI.

Nvidia Quadro FX 3450 SDI. Dual DVI to drive the LCD, but not SLI I don't think.

Two mistakes in one post. My bad.

Still doesn't change the fact that HL2 looks awesome fullscreen with AA.

I read somewhere that the human eye is approximately 4000x2000 resolution. This rig is getting close, but HDR monitors would be nice (like brightside http://www.brightsidetech.com/ with lots of individually controlled LEDs behind the pixels). Another decade...

Your card supports SLI but if you are only have one card you are not running in SLI. If you have 2 cards and use the SLI bridge and choose to run SLI in the nvidia control panel you are running SLI, if you haven't done this you are not running SLI.

(read you can sli without the bridge but you don't get optimal performance)

Alter the aspect to 16:10 first. That unlocks the widescreen resolutions.

Isn't the Aspect Ratio selection box supposed to be behind the resolution dropdown

I think he already has 16:10 AR selected, 1920x1200 is clearly visible in the list.
