Optimal settings for 15.4" and CS 1.6

Post by mrclark112 »

Hi, I've been fortunate to get a nice widescreen laptop : Compal HEL 80 / Georce 2 Go 7600 / Overclocked to 450/379. / Core 2 Duo / 1650x1050 (Forceware v84.25)

My main issue is, how can I get optimal settings without losing the vertical or streched aspect of playing this game? Currently, I'm using the widescreen 1650x1050 resolution mode.... but what if I want to keep it to 640x480 or 800x600 or 1024x768 resolution without stretching the game or losing "height" - not sure how to explain this well, but hopefully some old school cs 1.6 players here that might be able to give some suggestions.

Right now in Device Adjustments : I have selected "Fixed Aspect Ratio Scaling" Will this solve the problem if I choose the other lower resolutions? Also - There are Display Adapter Scaling and Centered Output scaling options available - thank you for your time and cooperation - :) Basically for accuracy rather than "visual" performance is what I'm looking for.

If you're using the up to date Steam version of Counter Strike 1.6, then you should be able to play without stretching or losing any vertical view by simply sleecting a widescreen resolution from the menu.

Actually, I'm not 100% sure that you wont lose any vertical view, but I'm 100% sure that you wont get any stretching.

thanks for the input... any other feedback on just keeping it on 640x480 or 800x600 with a 15.4" screen? - I've got the black borders on each side on those resolutions....

CS 1.6 is vert -. The MGL says this. If you're competitive enough that the vertical loss is worse than having a portion of your screen unused, then you should use a 4:3 resolution.
