Doesent appear so...it does have an aspect ratio choice...but that doesent affect the resolution choices...16:9 with 1600x1200? I don't think so. I need 1680x1050 w/ 16:10. Apparently thats not supported.

SOLUTION!

Use the same steps as Doom3 (it IS the same engine, so that makes sense)

Works great for me!

Hello there,

I'm new here - I just signed up due to several hours of frustration with Q4. Unfortunately, the r_mode -1 setting doesn't appear to work with Q4 - it says there is a video error and defaults back to 640x480. If you open up the .cfg file after trying r_mode -1, it shows that it's been defaulted back to r_mode 3.

The closest I've come to a decent display is stretching 1280x1024 with 16:9 enabled. It's certainly not ideal, but I'm hoping they put in a fix for this asap..

I've had no problem using the Doom 3 config file hack. But I think it's pretty silly that they didn't bother adding the resolutions to the menu. I mean, they added a Widescreen aspect ratio option in the menu, but no widescreen resolutions, wtf? Maybe it just didn't detect my monitor as widescreen or something. Anyway..

So how are they making these widescreen screenshots in resolutions of 1920 x 1200?

Because the game supports any resolution you want, through a console command or config file editing.

Oh yeah, forgot to mention. Set "r_aspectratio 2" for 16:10 ratio. (in case you missed that on the Doom 3 thread)

Yes, exactly...doom3 it works fine...quake4 forces the .cfg file back into 640x480 if you change r_mode to '-1', so there is no way to change rez to 1920x1200...could the guy who successfully did this please post EXACTLY what he did to get it working? TIA...

I opened Quake 4q4baseQuake4Config.cfg in a text editor, found these lines and changed them to my desired resolution (don't remember the default values)
seta r_customHeight "1050"
seta r_customWidth "1680"

Then just a couple lines down is
seta r_mode "-1"
seta r_aspectRatio "2"

Started the game, it's in my custom resolution.

If it's resetting to 640x480 my guess is you tried a resolution that your display driver does not recognize. Perhaps you mixed up the height and width or something?

Yeah, that's exactly what I did.. I feel stupid now. :) I'm used to putting in Width first and I had them reversed - dumb mistake!

Now if only I could get a playable framerate at that resolution!

Has anyone gotten 1920x1200 working? I emailed activision on this yesterday and there is there response:

" Response (Stephen Frick) 10/19/2005 06:23 AM
Hi, sorry you are having problems with Quake 4.

That is an unsupported resolution. The game will not play at that resolution level.

Thank you for contacting Customer Support.

I have a Dell 2405FPW and the game doesn't come up with the 1920x1200 option. Why not? It does allow 1600x1200, which I'm using with high everything and 2xAA (Runs great on an Nvidia 7800!)
So can I somehow get 1920x1200 to run? "

So are all of us with 2405FPW monitors going to have to play 16x12 only?

Gravelayer,
Go back up this topic a ways and click on the Doom3 link that was posted for the widescreen solution. Quake 4 and Doom 3 have the same game engine so the widescreen fix works.

I also have a Dell 2405 FPW and I am playing Quake 4 in 1920 x 1200 with an FOV of 100. Works great. All you have to do is change a few lines in a config file.

It is working for me with pretty nice gameplay on a 6800 GT OC from BFG. Your 7800 ought to rock it.

This is what ive put in my q4config

seta r_customHeight "1050"
seta r_customWidth "1680"
seta r_mode "-1"
seta r_aspectRatio "2"

It looks ok but how can I confirm the res? In the actual quake4 settings it shows 4:3 640x480. When I quit and look at config the setting above r still there.

It'll still show 4:3 640x480, because it technically isn't "supported" and isn't an option listed. Same with the aspect ratio, since 16:10 isn't an option in the game either. One way you could check is hit F12 to take a screenshot, and check to make sure it's in the correct resolution. Another thing you can do is set fullscreen to 0 temporarily to see if the window it opens up is the correct size.

I hope that helps!

Is that then 16:9 ? (Novice WS guy)

Shannow,
Taking a screen shot will tell you what your really at.
