Fahrenheit / Indigo Prophecy?
I was thinking about buying this game (known as Fahrenheit in most of the world, or Indigo Prophecy in the US), but was hoping to find out if it supports widescreen or not first. The demo did not have any widescreen resolutions in the options menu, but I never really looked around for a configuration file to possibly do it manually, and I uninstalled the demo before I thought of looking for it. Anyone know?

This game is really fantastic, its a great deal of fun and a very good adventure story. However, having just gotten the PC version loaded, I have not found a configuration that allows for widescreen. I have found a settings file, but its a .dat file and isn't really editable in notepad. Unless someone has found something I havn't, then it looks like it is pretty much a standard resolution only game :(

Bummer ..I was hoping it supported widescreen as well, Oh well ill just stick with the Xbox verison im already 4 hours into it. Awesome game.

I Found a .ini file inside the directory, but it has no resolution field.
It's a shame that such a great game cant be run in a res higher than 1280x1024

it works in 1600x1200 for me out of the box, still 4:3 but at least with the native panel resolution.. i can live with the black bars on the side for now, but also hoping somebody goes looking/hacking through the config files ;)

How hard is it to add a couple common widescreen resolutions!
Anyways, be great if someone could figure out widescreen for this game

And it's doubly annoying because the game is letterboxed. So we've got black bars on all 4 edges.

Anyone have any updates with regards to this game's situation?

I also want an update for this... badly.
As mentioned, the letterboxing makes it even harder to deal with.

you think 1600x1200 is bad??
i have to resort playing in 640x480 to fill my screen!
I'd better have 1152x648 or 1776x1000 instead!!!
i so wish someone who comes here will find a way....

May I ask why you had to resort to 640x480 ?

well as i explained, the only 2 widescreen rez suported by my screen are 1152x648 and 1776x1000...
any other 4x3 resolution that are higher than 720x480 cannot be streched to fill the screen because they are HD resolutions.. and HD needs to be 16x9.. so the "black" on each side are part of the "full screen resolution" even though its a 4x3 inside a 16x9... lol...
dont know if i even made sense there... but the fact remains that the only way to strech the screen and get full screen 16x9 without a "mod" of some sort for custom resolution is to strech a 640x480! :)
Have a nice day!

After scouring the freaking EXE files and other data files for hours, I realized the resolutions simply weren't listed there. Finally I worked my way to the obj/BYTECODE.BTC file.
It turns out that the resolutions are listed there as a STRING format.
To change 1600x1200 to your compatible widescreen mode, look for offset 964,574 (eb7deh) for the horizontal and 964,638 (eb81eh) for the vertical. Change the 4 byte strings 1600 and 1200 to your favorite mode, switch in game and you got it.
As always with this stuff, there's a possibility that menus may be placed precariously (Bloodrayne 2 and some Japanese games I've hexed sufferred from this), but it looks beautiful and it's running great so far! The grainy snow effect in this game is now more moody and less ugly. I'll post tomorrow if I hit any snags.
FMVs are hardcoded at 640x480 I think, but I managed to change them in the EXE (but obviously this isn't going to help with the quality, just the bars on the sides). I'll look for the offsets to fix it if anyone cares, but you can just do the standard search for (big endian 32 bit int) 640 and 480 and whack the hell out of em.

P.S. I've noticed that I've widened several games that aren't listed on this forum, is there a program people recommend for simple patch writing for stuff like this? I can only think of UNIXy tools I'd use.

wow...
i sure wasnt expecting someone to reply in here! :)
if only there were an easier way to do this! hehe...
i might just reinstall the game later on and try it though...
but i go through each game SO fast that every week or so i end up playing new ones... i just cant seem to find a game that will last me long enough! hehe... except MMORPG... but... i wont go into that! hehe :)
Think you could find the "hex" adress for 1024x768 too? cause since my rez is 1152x648 it would be better changing a xxxx-X-yyy resolution instead of using 1600x1200.... :)
what would be even better would be if Resolution patcher was "open source" and some brain in here could add the game to the patch.ini... that would own! :)
hehe...

Nice job man...
Score one more for the WSGF!
I'll pre-empt Paddy and go ahead and ask now... can you post some screenshots? Preferabbly the same camera angle in both 4:3 and ws formats.

FireHawkX: I don't think it mattters what you change, the game seems to properly detect if you have the mode available just from changing this string. I'm much more of a UNIXy guy and don't know how to write a patch like this for Windows, but will happily do so if someone can recommend to me the right tools.
Here's screenies. Look out they're 250k!

By the way, I ran through the tutorial and the beginning today and it was perfectly fine, I think this game will run fine.

DJBell, would it be possible for you to list more resolutions? I can't find 1600 in that one file because no game ever detects that high a resolution since my monitor is 1680x1050. The highest in-game setting I can see is 1280x1024. Could you possible post a little tutorial or how-to for us? Thanks for helpin out man! :D

Too bad it's a stretch job.
Regardless... nice job finding the code!
