Battlefield 2 random crash to desktop

Post by bonkrowave »

Is anyone else having random crashes to desktop with the retail Battlefield 2?

I was able to get the +srz and +srx commands working at 1280x720 and 1920x1080, only after a complete format and reinstall. There is however over scan at 1920x1080 on my Samsung 46' DLP.

I am using the driver which came with BF2 as the newer one on Nvidias website is very unstable for me. This is very frustrating and completely unacceptable. I have all the latest drivers, bios's, updates, and even after a fresh install the game still crashes to desktop randomly.

Yeah for developers publishing beta products as retail.

System is as follows

Athlon XP 3200+
1 GB Corsair Value ram
BFG tech 6800 GT OC
K7N2-Delta-L Motherboard
60GB Maxtor HD
Windows XP SP2 + all updates

Battlefield 2 random crash to desktop

Hey, i've had a couple crash to desktops myself and I found this information in the Planet Battlefield Forums.

Basically it's a server problem so wait for the patch. Don't rack your brain trying to fix it.

Battlefield 2 random crash to desktop

Ya the game works for me, .... for about 5 minutes then crashes to desktop ... so it is totally unplayable. I did a clean format and reinstall and that allowed the =szx and +szy commands to work.

Work is a relative term here, as the game crashes so much it is unplayable.

I've been playing it (or attempting to), but the past day or so the server choke seems to be so bad as to make it unplayable. I also am dissappointed with the front-end (it's a disaster compared to HL2/CS/Steam's).

Here's hoping they work everything out in a patch, I see a lot of promise in this game. I think it really encourages teamwork. I get a bigger rush from running 30 meters or so to a fallen comrade and zapping him back to life with the medic paddles than I do killing people (and I'm certainly better at the former than the latter). I'm afraid that I'd begrudgingly go back to HL2 if they dont fix the problems, though.

I'm slightly disappointed that they don't offer widescreen, but I'd rather they fix the server and front-end issues first.
