3x1 and 1 or 5x1 and 1 for future palns

Hi I have come to WSGF with some questions.

I plan to use this setup for school work , gaming and videos. Now the games are of various ages and go back to 1994 and I would like to be able to still play them iwth out too many issues.

Now should I go with a 3 and 1 setup with the center one being a 4k display and 1080s around it or go with 5 1080 monitors in portrait with another on top for stuff like videos.

Currently I have 2 ASUS VS278Q-P 27" 1080 monitors with a third on the way, one 22" AOC E22552V 1080 monitor and one Gateway L18M103 18" 768 4:3 TV that I got a few years back when I had no cash and will likely be replaced be the E2252V in the setup.

Oops forgot to mention my computer has a r9 290x and plan on getting another later.
