in the init folder there's a file called graphics.ini, but there are no plain text settings to edit. I'm not a hexedit master, so I didn't check to see if it was hex editable for resolution. Possibly something to look at, though.

a technique I have tried was looking at how the hex changes when the resolution changes to find out how to mod it

Welp, I believe I figured it out :)

The resolution is held in the "dev_mode.dat" file in binary format. I made a quick program to change this via the command line, so you don't need to break out the ol' hex editor. Download it at:

http://www.prismaticorder.com/urures.exe

All you gotta do is put that file in your Uru folder, then run "urures.exe " So to update my file to run in 1440x900, I'd run "urures.exe 1440 900". Simple enough. Go ahead and virus scan, disassemble, whatever, the program only modifies that one file.

Unfortunately when you start Uru, the initial dialog box that pops up won't accept your new resolution and will revert all your graphic settings back to defaults. To get around this, I've figured out how to bypass this dialog altogether and get right into the game. So, after you modify your resolution with urures.exe, simply run:

UruExplorer.exe -iinit To_Dni

to get directly into the game.

Let me know if this works or doesn't work. Someone is welcome to make a nice GUI launcher to do this :) I'll probably be working on more widescreen mods as I get games, because I'm really enjoying my shiny new widescreen laptop!! I've got a mod figured out to run Dark Age of Camelot in widescreen, but that's more complicated, so it will have to come later before I release anything.

Cheers,

Wogg

it doesn't work..... this part doesn't work and when i run the program it opens and closes and I can't write anything after the exe. So when i run the game it opens it but i can only see one line of the game a couple of pixel long and like 2 pixel height

Wogg, did you take the file down? I got your NFS:U hack running, and this seems to be basically the same idea. Looking forward to trying it.

I'm sorry viper, I don't know why it's not working for you. If you try "urures 1024 768" on the command prompt does the game run correctly? (but of course it won't be in widescreen)

If that works, and 1280x800 doesn't, it's something with your video card or drivers, but I can't be sure.

I finally figured it out....The resolution was offesettd in the hex code to the left weird. I corrected it but now the game runs stretched. My girl looks fat. Does your game run streched?

the stretching is probably your video card drivers filling the aspect.

I've got the .exe down finally, and run it, and it works perfectly. Running it at 1440x900 quite nicely.

I know there are better ways to do this, but the way that I used this is as follows:

Extract to root URU game dir
create shortcut to urures.exe
right click shortcut > properties
on the command line after "...urures.exe" just put in your width and height numbers, like this:
urures.exe" 1440 900
double click this and it automatically does its thing instantly

now make a shortcut to uruexplorer.exe
right click shortcut > properties
set up the command line with a switch like this: "../uruexplorer.exe" -iinit To_Dni

now just double click your new shortcut to uruexplorer.exe to run the game.

I'm sure there is a much easier way of doing this, but this way I know.

well After a couple of months....i finally updated my drivers to omega based on cat4.4....and i know i have my resolutions ok but the game is streched...this is killing me. I ran the game at 1280x1024 it looks awsome but i see from the top only meaning i only see the first 800 pixels from the top to down......Why the hell isn't the game centering for me. when i manually change the resolution for 1280x800....Help

Thank you so much for this post.

I have been looking for a hack or something for Uru.

I will be getting my new laptop in July and wanted to play Uru on it, but the laptop has a 17" widescreen LCD supporting 1680x1050, and I didn't want the black bars on the left and right hand side.

I will be testing this hack in July when I get the laptop and will post back here to let everyone know if it worked out well.

Since Wogg has gotten Uru to work in WideScreen, is there a hack for realMyst?? I believe realMyst uses a similar, less advacned version of the Uru game engine, so the hack might be similar? Any answers??

Now, about Syberia....I have recently started to play this and it is quite fun. Very interesting. But now....any WideScreen support??

I've also just recently got Syberia 2....does anyone know if this supports WideScreen out of the box??

Thank again Wogg!!!

:L:

Edit: just read in one of the posts that Syberia does not support widescreen in any way or form what-so-ever. So much for playing that in widescreen. What about Syberia 2?

I can let you know that the hack seems to be working just fine! I'm playing URU in full-screen mode (not windowed) on a Dell Inspiron 9100 at 1280 x 800 and circles look like circles again and my avvie isn't a wide-body anymore!!

What would be truly spectacular is to have Ubi re-render the game for this resolution giving us the extra left- and right-side imaging.

Thanks to the poster of this hack! You rule!
