Watch_Dogs freezing every 3-5 seconds

Post by Zatie »

Hey Folks,

I purchased Watch_Dogs about a month ago, I've been unable to play until now (away with losts of work, various things, etc)

I'm running in the usual 5760x1080
The game runs totally smooth in Ultra with maximum everything.

ONLY Problem!...It keeps freezing for a short time every 3-5 seconds while driving around.

Any ideas why?

Thank You :-)

Drop the textures to "High" and see if that makes any difference.

No Difference, still the same, periodic freezing every while

For shits and giggles try Medium textures.

I recall one of the modders working with the game (I think it was Maldo) saying that they do some odd texture stuff that is causing the freezing. I thought it was Ultra only, but might also be on high.

Dude, head to the watch dogs official forum and you'll see you're not alone. People have tried all sorts of things, and yes changing from Ultra to high textures has worked for some. Disabling Sli has shown improvements also. The problem is within the game, no hardware setting, or mod has really been able to fix it. I get the stutter, and it ranged from terrible to just playable. I now use a mod, and it's helped a little bit more. Everyone is waiting for the official patch (if it ever f*cking comes) from Ubi.

I actually found that I have less stutter when playing in Msaa8x, but that requires me to go down to single screen really (although it does look good) - also I've resorted to playing in single screen, because the HUD is still messed up with Haydens fix (hopefully something else they can fix).

One big thing that I found, is using beta drivers 340.43 with the ubisoft 1.3 patch makes the game unplayable on any setting - but 373.88 + 1.3 ubi is "better".

I will admit that I have never lowered my textures below high. There are texture mods out there, that give you that high/ultra look, but only take the resources of medium/low - you can try that too. I've tried so many tweaks with this game, and only because I kinda want to play it - seems interesting enough - but mainly because, with the mods that game looks awesome, and so much better than vanilla.

Head over to guru3d.com and you'll find a bunch of mods there. I will say, that playing across 3 screens, I actually get pretty good performace with everything on ultra and Msaa2x or Txaa2x.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the help and the link to the mod. I'll try the settings you suggested and I'll switch back to the latest WHQL and assess that too
