Need solution for GTA San Andreas PC

I just got the game and although it supports widescreen resolutions, everything is still stretched and squished compared to a regular monitor. Need a solution to change the FOV or something. Help!

And before someone says "turn on the widescreen in options", here's the description from the manual:

Widescreen on/off:
This optino is not as obvious as it sounds. Using the Widescreen toggle you can force a 4:3 aspect ratio resolution to use a 16:9 aspect ratio (so if Grand Theft Auto only offers you 4:3 aspect ratio screen resolutions to use, but your laptop has a 16:9 ratio widescreen display, then this will force the 4:3 resolution to look like 16:9; thereby sorting out the "squashed CJ" look). A proper 16:9 resolution displayed on a 16:9 screen does not need the use of the widescreen toggle (or this will result in "skinny CJ")

Maybe it's supposed to be "fatter" than 4:3, I got used to it after playing for a while, still looks "fat" compared to what I'm used to see but I guess it's normal.

I'm with you, bro. I have the exact same thing happening - I'm about to get into the config files (if I can) and see if anything is tweakable.

I've posted screenshots, which you can view here: http://www.widescreengamingforum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1007

can't even select my native resolution

Post by laggerific »

I'm using my Samsung DLP 50" TV as my monitor and I've had no problem running anything in widescreen (Doom3, FarCry, Psychonauts, Riddick, etc.) at the resolution 1248x702, which I achieve with Powerstrip. But with San Andreas, the highest res I can select is 960x702. There has got to be a way to set this manually or something...

offtopic, but....

Does anyone have any info on using controllers with San Andreas? I have a PS2 and XBox controller hooked up to my PC and while it will allow me to assign buttons...from either one, I can't get it to map movement controls to the analog or digital sticks...it's totally bizarre.

Hmm...so I couldn't reassign them, but the sticks are working...weird...

and I have it set to 960x720 and with widescreen on, it looks good...although at AA level 3 there is some weird skipping of the cop car during the opening scene...going to try different settings to see what's up with that...although I hear ATI has new drivers coming out soon with some good speed bumps...hopefully they aren't just DX9 related.

Turing on that widescreen in options cuts off A LOT of viewing area, otherwise I'd use that.

Widescreen doesn't work at all for me! I have a custom system with two 17 inch TFT-displays linked together to create a 2560x1024 picture, and San Andreas only lists resolutions from 640x480 to 1024x768. When I switch to one-display mode it lists all the resolutions. I guess it's about the aspect ratio, then? The game just doesn't like it and doesn't even bother to stretch the image like Vice City and all the other games do? When I enable the widescreen mode, the image is still 1024x768 but obviously streched to it from some 16:9 resolution.

So, heeelp please! I love the game, but it just doesn't work widescreen :(

No probs here!

I compared the widescreen pc version with widescreen from the PS2 and they look identical, save the pc's increased resolution and textures.

I was able to select 1680x1050 right from the in-game menu as well. Though I did install the 2005 monitor drivers before I installed that game if that helps anyone.

Thank God, I'm having a bit of luck with all this, but I wish developers were actually supporting these monitors. I guess that's the price we pay for being pioneers.

No problems with any games, though I've only had it a few days. But 10 or so games and if I couldn't select my rez from the in-game menu, the excellent widescreen switcher I downloaded here works perfectly.

I use dual displays, but GTA (like any other game actually) just displays on the primary screen, and works well there in 1920x1200 (except for the incorrect AR). the 2nd monitor just keeps displaying whatever windows are there.

do you want to play the game stretched over both monitors? are there actually any games that support that, or gfx cards that allow 3d acceleration for both displays at the same time?

Yeah, I do. It's a basic function and so it shouldn't be a problem, but with San Andreas it just seems to be. Every game I've played so far has had absolutely no problems at all with it including GTA: Vice City. I have no idea why it doesn't work in San Andreas. AFAIK having a 3D program run on two monitors is no different from running it on one.

Anyone figure out a way to define custom resolutions in the game? I figured that if there was a way to change the resolution to 1680x875 (16:9 like the game was made for) you could at least get rid of skinny CJ. You'd get black bars on the top and bottom but it might be worth it.

No I guess not, that's what I've been ranting about heh.. Really frustrating. I already completed the game on 1024x768 :(

I experimented with adding custom resolutions through nvidia forceware. The conclusion I came to is the game does support custom resolutions, but only 4:3 or close to it. I tried tons. You will never get something less than a 16:10 ratio. I ended up just going with 1600x1000. Although I have a little underscan on the sides, It's great on my tv.

Hi,

I normally play San Andreas in 1920x1200 which is the native resolution of my display. From time to time I would like to play this game on my projector. Unfortunately I cannot setup 1280x720 in the options menu of San Andreas. 1280x720 is listed alright in my display properties. I'm using a GeForce 6800.

as per usual, the Master Games List has teh solution.

http://www.widescreengamingforum.com/node/

get that progam, and read the info on it...

it works like a charm - it does many things other than changing the Hor -/+ an FOV (and being able to save multiple settings)
has different camera settigns for all vehicle types, and otehr spiffy things.
