Boiling Point: Road to Hell
Boiling Point: Road to Hell
Regrettably, the newest addition to this list is Boiling Point: Road to Hell (aka Xenus) from Deep Shadows/Atari.
At first, I tried to set the resolution via the game's options menu, but there were only 4:3 modes up to 1600x1200. Having failed there, I edited the .ini file only to be met with an error message at startup:
"Game supports video modes only with 4:3 aspect rations. Please configure display settings".
Why does this game hates widescreen modes is a giant mystery to me. I mean, Boiling Point is basically a first-person shooter and it would greatly benefit from 16:10 goodness.
Fortunately, I have contacts with the developers (one of the perks of working in games industry ;) and I'll try to ask them if it is possible to do something about this problem.

It would be great if the developer can release a patch curing that. ;)

I'll use my first post to add a, "Me too!"
This game definitely needs some WS support.

After a bit of tinkering, I got this to work. Try this -
Edit GAME.INI and make the following configuration changes -
ModeWidth=1280
ModeHeight=768
Windowed mode=1
Launch the application and hit Alt-Enter once you're actually in-game. Full-screen 1280 * 768 with no stretch!

Nope...this don't work for me. Loading screen comes on and then I get an error message about the game only supporting 4:3.

Weird...
I got that message every time until I switched to windowed mode. Double-check to make sure you're not launching the game in full screen mode.

It definitely works for me. Using a GeForce 6800 GT with 71.89 ForceWare drivers.

Once it loads in the window, hit Alt-Enter and it should change to full screen.

That's the problem. It won't finish loading. It begins to load in the window and then the 4:3 error comes up. The game will not continue to load after the error...or at least I can't get it to. It goes back to the DT.
I am also on a 6800 GT with 71.89 drivers.
Is there some other setting that could be changed?

The only other possiblity I can come up with is... maybe your desktop resolution? Try setting that to 1280 x 768 before launching the game. It's a long-shot but I can't think of anything else that might allow mine to work correctly while yours doesn't.

I think this might be a possible solution...
I patched my Boiling Point to 2.0 with the European patch, even though I live in the US. (Available HERE: http://dlh.net/cgi-bin/dlp.cgi?lang=eng&sys=pc&file=boilingpoint_p20euro.zip&ref=) When I scrolled down for resolutions, there were a few more than before, although none were labeled by aspect ratio.
I prefer 1680x1050, but that option was not there, however, 1440x900 was there, so I used that.
