21:9 Monitor(s)

Post by troyBORG »

Hello, I'm wanting to get one of the new 21:9 monitors for my gaming setup. I've had multiple monitors for quite a while now, but only two, so muli-monitor has been hard because everything splits down the middle.

Not to long ago I got myself a nice high end (3770k, gtx670) PC. And I'm wanting something different then 1080p.

I saw the video that was done about the Dell U2913WM but I also want to use the monitor for my video edit/photo editing. So I like that it is an IPS. I recently had to replace the monitor that wasn't my primary and it is a really bad TN panel (video).
But I've heard IPS panels can have motion blur which I do not want because I notice things like that.

So mostly I was wondering if anyone here had one and if they have anything that they don't like about it or suggestions you can give.

I threw together a photoshop image of what it will look like on my desk, (I also show my current monitor "above" it).
Here is what my desk actually looks like right now YES I know I have a lot of icons. :silent:

I'm curious why nobody bothered to give there opinion, perhaps because there are plenty ofreviews on 21:9 monitors to find now. And for IPS vs TN... i would take IPS everytime, even for FPS games. Just my 2 cents...

i actually joined this forum to specifically ask about people's opinions on 21:9 monitors! :O

pretty much, i saw this music video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sUBzjL2XN9Q), and it happened to have some lg product placement... pretty much i got caught hook line and sinker :|

in any case, now i really wanted to get one, but i'm always hesitant to get "novel" things unless a lot of people like it... that and the fact that i can't seem to find a display model of this anywhere... :( i'm not questioning the quality of the monitor, but rather if it'll be a better experience than, let's say, a 2 monitor setup or something. anyone have any opinions on this?

Well, for me its all about the pixel count.
With these 21:9 monitors the vertical pixel count is stil 1080, like any full HD monitor.
Only the horizontal pixel count with 2560 pixels is 640 more then 1920 with full HD.
Thats only 1/3 wider then a comman full HD monitor.

As an eyfinity gamer with 3 full HD monitors the 21:9 screen is not interesting.
But if cashflow is limited... not only for the monitor but also the VGA card.. i understand this could be an option.
Most games will probably support 2560*1080, as they also do 3xHD (landscape or portrait).

But if you have the cash i would go for an 27 inch 2560x1440.
Same horizontal resolution but 360 more pixels verticaly!

(or 3 full HD screens :triplewide: )
3xU2311H_portrait+HD6970+2500K@4Ghz+P67Ex4Gen3+8GB+M4_128GB+4x500GB_raid10+Raven_RV01= a little outdated but still nice pc gaming fun

Keep in mind that pixel count is not the only important thing. To me a wider aspect ratio is what I am looking for when I compare 2560x1080 to 2560x1440. I like 2560x1080 gaming almost as much as I like 5760x1080 gaming.
