[REQUEST] Psychotoxic (2005 first-person shooter)

Post by ZIGS »

Hi, I looked everywhere for a widescreen fix for this game but found nothing. There's a video.cfg file with a [VidMode]=* entry where * is just a single number. Each number represents a set resolution, none of which are widescreen. There's no way to manually type a custom resolution (at least that I figured), only this method. If you guys wanna try to figure it out, you can download a free demo from here: http://www.fileplanet.com/150163/150000/fileinfo/Psychotoxic-Demo-[English]

Thanks in advance

Hmm, seems we have different versions of the game.
I need your files - PTBase.dll and vision.dll. Reinstall the game and upload these files somewhere.

Ok, this is odd. I actually got the full game (I was trying with the demo) and used those files you edited with it and it worked, the resolution is now 1680x1050. The problem is, the game itself doesn't work. The menu buttons don't display text (so they don't say "options, new game", etc) but everything else looks fine and when I click the new game button, the game just crashes. This happened before I used your files so it's a problem with the game.
It's odd because the demo works fine. Any ideas?

Perhaps you have a rip version of the game, and because of this it does not work.

@jackfuste

How did you do that? I tried to get 1920x1080 through the right hexdezimal in the dll´s you mentioned but couldn´t find anything.

update:

got it

Just got this today. It's the EU DVD-Rom release and I've got the ptbase.dll and vision.dll files to hand. I've also got a hex editor that I can use. To change the resolution to 1920x1080 would I just need to "find and replace" the entries for (using the hex editor) the 320 x 240 entries (or another comparable resolution) with the values for 1920 x 1080 in both files from the values in this list?

http://www.wsgf.org/forums/viewtopic.php?f=63&t=16237

Or is there more that needs to be done?

Thanks in advance :)

I have no idea if that's all you need to do but why don't you try it and report back?

I tried the find and replace in both .dll files replacing the 320x240 values with the hex values for 1920x1080. Saved the files with the changes and transferred them over.

No luck though. Application failed to start/recognise.

I just tried the adjusted .dll files that jackfuste kindly posted that start the game in 1680x1050 and they work fine on the EU DVD-Rom release. The only oddity is occasionally the subtitles in cutscenes are obscured.

Just curious now as to what needs to be adjusted to provide a 1920x1080 resolution.

Could you make a file for 1600x900 and put it in the 1024 option ? I'm using the v1.05 files from game copy world.
