Eyefinity with passive DP-VGA adapter and 5970 not working anymore

Post by RodIshiCi »

I've a setup of 3 T27A550 with my Radeon 5970. It was working fine (since these monitors lack a DVI port, I've been using them with a DP-VGA adapter, DVI-VGA and DVI-HDMI), but then the center monitor had a problem with a stuck pixel and I sent it for fixing.
Since it took some time there, I've updated drivers from 12.2 to 12.3 while using only two monitors, and when I finally got my other monitor back and connect it, Eyefinity wouldn't work, saying it won't work with extended desktop and then, when setting up as a 3x1 group, it just creates a 1920x1080 imagem while replicating the same image along all 3 monitors.
I've tried to reinstall 12.2 drivers, upgrade to 12.4, but I'm not able to set Eyefinity up anymore.

Does anyone has a clue of what's happening?

When it replicates on all

Post by BHawthorne »

When it replicates on all three screens it's working. Just set it for a triple-screen resolution, not a single-screen resolution in the control panel. Eyefinity mirrors when in a single screen resolution. If it's grouped, it's working.

Odd, sounds like something is buggy with CCC then.

What process are you using to clean out the registry and driver versions between upgrade and downgrade of drivers? I really suggest while in safe mode using Driver Sweeper to remove the AMD/ATI video drivers followed up by a registry clean with CCleaner then reboot to install new driver. Both are free and handy utilities to have.

Driver Sweeper: http://phyxion.net/item/driver-sweeper.html
CCleaner: http://www.piriform.com/ccleaner/download/standard

Between those two, that should remove all potential driver and registry conflicts with the driver install.

Did a lot of uninstall and install here, and after reverting to 12.1, everything if fine now. (12.2 wouldn't load CCC, 12.3 and 12.4 would give me the same problem reported earlier).

Thanks!
