I'm having some issues setting up two 27" Dell Ultrasharp Monitors (U2711) and wondering if someone here could help out.

Video Card
ATI Radeon HD 6970 2GB DDR5

Other System Specs
Intel i7 x990 Extreme 6-Core @3.47GHz 12MB Cache
ASUS Rampage III Extreme s1366 Intel X58 SATA 6GB/s
2x8GB Corsair Dual Vengeance 1600MHz DDR3
1TB Barracuda XT SATA 32MB
Windows 7 Professional 64-Bit
CM Silent Pro Gold 1200W

Catalyst Control Center Ver.12.1
All drivers up-to-date.

My main problem is that one of the 27s will hit max resolution 2560x1440 but the other one will only do 1920x1080. I only have the one video card and both monitors are hooked up via DVI. What am I missing so I can get both of them running at 2560x1440?

I appreciate any insight on this.

Thanks.

Well, somewhere in your graphics card booklet it must say that one DVI port can not support resolutions over 1920x1080/1200. This restriction applies to every 6xxx series card or older (not sure about the 7xxx series). You must hook up the.monitor to a displayport, they can support much greater resolutions. If you already use 2 displayports, you must find out which DVI port has the restriction. I could google some, but I'd need the exact graphics card type.

EDIT: You could also try one DVI and one HDMI, that would leave the 'lesser' DVI port unused.

Thanks Moose.

Set one up on DVI and the other on DP. Works great and got the eyefinity set up done as well. These monitors are awesome.

Thanks again.
