Hi all,

First post long time browser.

Right I'll jump straight in!

I have 3 Dell U2311H Monitors. They all have the following connections: DVI-D (HDCP), D-sub, DisplayPort (according to TFTCentral and me looking at them :) ).

The Graphics card is an XFX 6950 with 2Gb RAM, its has 2 mini Displayport connections, HDMI and 2 DVI connections.

What is the best way to setup Eyefinity on these monitors, i've read some more threads here and the simplest looks to be.

1 Mini DP, 2 x DVI.

However i also did some searching and found 2 Mini DP and 1 DVI is an option, would this be better?

Lastly would the HDMI connection better still than the DVI connection as it is HDMI 1.4a? I can probably get an adaptor from somewhere so that I can plug the HDMI into the DP on the final monitor. Or is the HDMI connector and the DVI's (I see they are HDCP capable -just like HDMI) actually all run off the same interface/chip/whatever and would make no difference?

Anyway i guess i'm just enquiring about what would cause me less headaches in the long run but provide me with the best performance. The finding of the HDMI adaptor would be no trouble, so don't include that in your thoughts.
Hoping people with experience of Eyefinity's foibles can help me out.

Cheers.

I have 3 Dell U2311H myself and i have a HD 6970! Was running with 2x DVI 1x DP works flawless!

If you want to run 2x DP ... Just do it! But you have to buy 2 DP cable instead of one. But i'm pretty sure you already have 2x DVI cable.
I dont think it will make any difference!

And about that idea with HDMI to DVI conector.... WTF? Always take Nativ before adapters! If you switch HDMI signal with an Active adapter to DVI all benefits from HDMI (ähmmmmm which benefits exactly ?^^ ) are lost! And if you use an passiv adapter the GPU gives a DVI signal over HDMI output (wait... Not sure if that works with HDMI it does with DP!)

But why do you care that much about Cables? It's not an 2650x1600 3D 120HZ Display. So any wire will do fine.

AFAIK you only see difference when you have longer than 15m Cable. But hei, i'm no Pro with Display connections. Maybe some1 can enlighten me.

Hey Haldi,

Thanks for the quick response, i have actually got 3 MiniDP to DP cables here already so I just thought HDMI on card ->HDMI/MiniDP convertor -> Cable into DP on 2311H.

But if you have the 2311H's working flawlessly off the first config of 1DP, 2DVI i'll go with that. Obviously i have the cables to do 2DP, 1DVI as well already. So just wondered if that is going to make it easier for the card running 1 nondp connection than running 2 non DP connections.

If yit makes no difference at all, i'm totally happy to go with a setup like yours :)

Any ideas?

well, sometimes you get problems with DP connections. Because you haven't turned on the Screen befor starting computer, or some random disconection poping up (but always only right after start! Not when computer is running longer than 5 minutes!) put Screen OFF/ON will resolve that most times.

I am on 3x U2311H's as well; connected via 2xdvi and 1x dp. Sometimes for no reason the screen which is connected via dp starts to flicker. As Haldi already said, then can happen, although it happens to me also after the system has been running for quite some time. Switching between single monitor/duplicate(eyefinity)/extended helps (just hold win key and cycle with 'p'). The important thing though is that it never flickers/turns off when I am using it, otherwise it would be annoying as hell. Since dp and dvi otherwise(digital singal) seem to be the same, I would go with 2xdvi and 1xdp.
