I would not get the OCZ SSD.

Post by Gilly »

I would not get the OCZ SSD. There have been many people complaining about reliability (BSOD) with the new Sandforce SSDs. I would get a Crucial m4 128GB.

I would also step back to PC12800 (1600Mhz) RAM, as the extra speed is wasted. On Sandy Bridge platforms the memory speed is worked off the system speed, which should never exceed around 107Mhz. You want to keep it set at 100 to 102Mhz though, making the extra RAM speed useless.

The motherboard is a "B3" which means that it has the updated chipset without the SATA bug, but there are newer boards which support PCI express 3.0, not just 2.0. IMO, in the real world this is not worth anything, but you might want one of those boards for future proofing.

If the budget allows, I would upgrade to a Corsair AX1200, or the new Seasonic 1000w platinum PSU. These both have hybrid fan speed controls, which means that below around 25-30% load, the fan doesn't spin, great if you are after silence!

I think you have specced up a great system though!

If your going to overclock

Post by Skid »

If your going to overclock your CPU then get a i5-2500K and save yourself some money, anything beyond it is past the point of reason given the shear overclockablity of the 2500K.

Read: http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/gaming-cpu-overclocking,review-32328-4.html

Also, if you want to overclock your CPU AND be able to run 3 GTX580s, then I would look at a 1200W PSU, personally I can vouch for this one:

I would personally swap for a 2500K CPU and swap the 64GB for a 128GB SSD, or upgrade to an AX1200 PSU, although for the same price, the Corsair HX1050 would be better than the Cougar, IMO..

But I don't think you will be disappointed with what you have linked!
