so I just built myself a new computer, it's a machine I use for work, Gaming, and for home theater use. It has the ATI HD5870 eyefinity 6 video card in it, and I have an issue that i cannot figure out. when ever i have the computer on and the projector off (secondary display) the primary screen keeps flashing like it's searching for the secondary display? if I have the projector on, then it is recognized and everything is good.

I am running out from 1 port of the eyefinity 6 into a miniDP adapter to VGA then to a 19" monitor(primary screen), from the second port, I am going out the miniDP to HDMI adapter then into my Onkyo HT-RC260, then from the Onkyo to the projector (panny ae-700u) via a 35' HDMI cable.

to alleviate myself of this issue I have been unplugging the HDMI from the back of the receiver, but i am getting tired of doing this, plus I am afraid I may wear the socket out at the rate i am using it....

so far i have tried setting the receiver to pass thru, and that didn't do anything... also I've tried every setting possible in the catalyst control center.

also I'm thinking I might buy an HDMI signal booster, cause 35' of HDMI is pretty far, even though i bought a good quality thick cable. i have a sneaky suspicion the cable length is to far.

anyone have any ideas?

Hey there,
I have experienced some very similar issues with an XFX 5870 eyefinity 6 card and 35' DVI-HDMI cables....

When I was using 2 of the supplied NON active mini DP to DVI adapters the displays would not allways be recognized properly. I then moved ALL of my inputs over active DP-DVI adapters the displays were all recongnized and functioned fine EXCEPT when entering eyefinity mode... then I would get strange dropouts again...

SOOOOOoooooo I installed some HDMI boosters and presto chango seemed to do the trick. (Ideally try and get some powered HDMI boosters; Interior Electronics in Vancouver "should" be able to get them in... That being said someone may have stock on hand (if you happen to find some let me know as I still need more.)

I am using 22gauge cable with ferrite cores from monoprice

Id suggest getting a booster and or an active mini DP to hdmi/dvi adapter and give it a shot...
