ATi 6970 adapter questions

Hello all,

I currently am planning to purchase a 6970 to and want to make sure I understand the hookup options I have been reading about. I am not intrested in eyefinity at this point becuase I dont want to give up my portrait-landscape-portrait setup. I currently run a dell (30") 3007wfp-hc flanked by a pair of (20.1) 2007fp's in portrait mode. I will be running games on the middle screen with multi tasking/ work on the sides.

Am i reading correctly that the new 6970's only have 1 Dual Link DVI output? If so i would run my 30" dell at 2560x1600 on this port. I would then run the Single Link output to one of the flanking 20.1"s in portrait mode. From what I read I cannot use the HDMI at this point because it uses the same circuitry as the DVI's? If this is true what type of adapter would I need to run my other 20.1 screen? The 20.1 dells I have only except DVI, no hdmi or display port :(. Could I use a passive display port to single link dvi since the screen wont go over the 1920x1200 single link bandwidth? or would i need an active adapter? Do the newer adapters still have the flickering that I used to experience with my old Accell active adapter/ Thanks for any expertise guys and sorry if this has been covered elsewhere.

AFAIK (And I am just playing with my new 6950 hacked to 6970) there is only one dual link DVI and you can use that plus the other DVI OR HDMI, you cannot use 2xDVI and 1xHDMI. You need an adapter and I (and my mate who has done the same upgrade 5870 to 6950/70) know the passive DP to VGA do not work. EF enables and sees the mon but the VGA screen goes blank in EF (OK in other modes and in fact I can see the BIOS and windows boot on the DP_VGA screen until the CCC kicks in after boot and enables EF)

I am also not sure if you can do PLP displays, AFAIK that does not work in EF unless something has changed an it has been added in

I have a HD6970 that replaced my HD5870 in eyefinity.

I run Samsung 3xE2320X monitors, using the two native DVI ports, the miniDP to DP adapter that came with the Sapphire card and a Powercolor DP to DVI dongle and all works awesome before and after.

I will eventually buy a miniDP to DVI so I am not converting twice. But it all works fine.
