Can a 6870 do eyefinity and have one extended monitor at the same time? 5040x1050 for game and one extended screen for voice chat and monitoring programs etc? Thanks!

You should be able to. The Stock 6870 can run 4 monitors. With the HUB due sometime out next year, you can run 6 monitors.

I think you need to clarify this. Just HOW would one go about getting 4 monitors activated/enabled on a stock HD 6870? I have one and, unless one is using native DP monitors and/or Active Adapters, the cards will ONLY allow TWO monitors at one time. In order get anything over the two, you have to have something of the above configuration to make it work. I think your response is very misleading.

CLARIFICATION:
Two monitors can use DVI or HDMI (there's only one HDMI Port)
The other two must use the mini-DP ports by either being a native DP monitor or by using active adapter.

That is what I know and feel should have been supplied in the original answer. I have no idea as to what experience the OP has, but, I hate to think that he/she would go out and buy a video card with the understanding that all they needed was the video card and four monitors.

I have had eyefinity for a year now on a 5970. 3 dell monitors with native dp. Just wondering if the 6 series would let you 3 screens in triple screen gaming while a fourth can be used as a extended at same time. Could not do it on 5 series just wondering if 6 series could do it.

I have the HD 6870 and need to use 4 monitors
i searched over the internet and found that i might need some active adobter i dont know what is that do they mean the converter
i have a converter with the VGA card its from mini DisplayPort connectors to somekind of HD and i had a convertor to DVI and there is a converter from HDMI to DVI that i also used neither are working i cant get more than 2 monitors working.
so i found in this site
http://www.techpowerup.com/138882/SAPPHIRE-Announces-HD-6870-TOXIC-and-Vapor-X-Editions.html
its saying
"using two of the DVI/HDMI outputs as well as the two DisplayPorts enables this card to support up to four monitors in Eyefinity (SLS) mode."
and also in the display setting i try to use the 3rd monitor i get unable to save setting.
and in ATI setting i get only to use two monitors if i choose expand they ask of what monitor to disable...
need help as soon as possible.
