The deal with eyefinity?

So recently ive been seriously considering going for another 2 monitors and getting an eyefinity setup. Ive been researching loads and it seems the more I look into it the more problems I find...

At the moment im running 1x ATI 5850 and from what I understand this would probably struggle abit running 3x 27" at 1920x1080. What would people reccomend graphics card wise for this kind of setup to still run games decently? I looked at 5850 crossfired but that seems to bring up 100's more issues with crossfire and eyefinity(or is this working correctly witht the latest drivers?) and the 5970 is out of my price range.

If it helps ive got the i7 920 cpu, 6gb ram and ill be looking to run 3x LG W2753VC-PF 27" monitors.

Yeah that might not be as fast as you want for multi-monitor gaming.

I run a 5870 with 2GB of VRAM @ 4800x2560 or 7680x1600 (Depends on the Game or Day). I do pretty well with that card.

For anyone running 5760x1080 I generally recommended getting video cards with the extra frame buffer (2GB).

They cost a bit more, but it's worth having a smooth eyefinity experience.

I have 3 1080p screens and I can tell you a 5850 is enough to run 5916x1080 and max settings on most games. The only thing I turn off is AA. If you wanted extra horsepower anyways I think a second 5850 would be a good option.

Yea ive seen i few ppl say that 2GB makes a good difference. Only problem is I wouldnt be able to crossfire it with my current card, so i guess it would probably be better just getting another 1gb 5850 for crossfire?

Is there any info about how crossfire and eyefinity are working now? I just seem to find old threads (http://www.widescreengamingforum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=64&t=20145&start=0) with complaints about stuttering. Has this been fixed with the new drivers?

I dont have any personal experience with crossfire eyefinity, but I have read about 2 remedies that can help fix microstutter. One is to disable CCC from your startup programs and the other is to disable HPET in your bios.

Every driver update has many crossfire fixes and profiles, if that's any comfort. But SLI/Crossfire has always seemed like more of a problem than its' worth. Which is why i usually chose to spend more on a single card sooner, rather then buy a second, slightly cheaper one. Though now that i make more than triple what i did last time i shopped for parts, that may change. :D

Think ill just try eyefinity with 1x5850 then for now and see how it goes. Found a few vids on youtube testing a single 5850 at 5760x1080 and it runs alot better then i expected.

Worst case i'll sell the 5850 and upgrade to a 2GB card, unless crossfire + eyefinity starts getting some better reviews.
