While I've not seen this anywhere, I suspect...?

GF100 level die with reorganised/optimised shader/ROP arrangement (a la GF104)?

Of course, I'm probably completely wrong, but at this stage, who knows?

Idk, I feel it might just be a rebrand (GTX200 to GTX300 series).

Actually that article says the rumour is its a GF110.
We don't know much beyond the name, but rumors say that it's a GF110-based card with 512 CUDA cores. Hopefully we'll find out soon!

Toms Hardware got their hands on one and put it though its paces:

How come they never touch on the good things like:
Can it run surround with just one card?
How does it do in surround resolutions?

Because its still a relatively small market, you can get a fair idea by checking the benchmarks for 2560x1600. They do that kinda of test but not during there normal testing. But it did answer the surround with one card, it only allows 2 outputs at ones, so no.

Are surround benchmarks common else where, ie other tech or review sites?

There's this... 580 SLI vs. 5870 Crossfire in three games + 3D Surround in BFBC2 on a 3-way SLI setup:

The 580 is 580 bucks. How appropriate.

So... does anyone have 3 of these in surround yet? :D

I was expecting to see a driver update, but it would appear the 580 has its own graphics driver version made specially for it.

Given that Anandtech very specifically mentions "the 1.5GB GTX580" (a distinction that no one made with the GTX480) I hope that nVidia are doing a 3GB version in the not-too-distant future...

I wont upgrade to 3 x GTX 580, my GTX480s are still up to the job at 5040x1050 for any game, including Crysis 2 (i guess).

I on the contrary am quite tempted to make the jump... 480s are plenty good, but 580s are a little better at everything, so what the heck. And right now is probably the good time to sell used 480s, before the value & demand drop too much.

I'm not too concerned about the 1.5 GB thanks to my relatively modest resolution, but it'd be really cool indeed to see 3 GB cards in the near future :)

I've read most reviews there is about the 580's and it seems they have fixed everything I didn't like with the 480. If the 6970 doesn't hold up against it, I will get one of those this time I think. Seems like a pretty solid card. :)
