Hello all, I've been reading stuff about how 2 5970 aren't really that good for eyefinity! But say if I wish to play graphically intensive games such as DiRt 2 and MW2 at ultra high settings, is there any other setup to go about achieving that?

First off, the new rig I'm building has 6GB of 1600MHZ RAMS, i7 930 OC'ed to 4GHZ and the Gigabyte X58 UD7 Mobo V2. Also the monitors I'm using is the Dell 24'' U2410 displayport monitors!

Any help or advice on other setups would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks for the help guys, I'll be making my decision next week so I hope you guys can help me out here :rockout

Hey there,

DONT DO IT!

Seriously, I have had problems since day one (December 2009) with WOEFUL performance/issues.

Instead, go for 2gb 5870s, a 4Gb 5970, or a 5970 now then another later (when/if drivers mature).

The rest of your rig is fine.

This type of setup is not PnP. You need to have time/patience to get individual games/applications running. Each game/application is unique to this setup.

ex. Some games need to run in DX9 or need to have AA/AF/Post processing turned down/off. Some need FOV mods.

I suppose you know this if you are posting on THIS forum.

Good luck. :D

I spent months trying to get dual 5970's and dual 5970's working properly and i gave up, the drivers simply suck for crossfire+eyefinity, poor performance, vsync and visual tearing issues. so i got 2 480gtx's instead now that the surround drivers are out and the nvidia surround works perfectly.
In benchmarks, the 5970s are way faster, but in games, they dont even come close to the 480's.

Dual 5970's in bad company 2 at 6100x1200 is stuttery and not smooth at low settings.
dual 480's beautifully smooth with everything maxed out at high at 6081x1200.

If you really want to go for ati, then dual 5870's as dual 5970's have too many problems.

I have a 5970 and will be going to either 2 470s or 480's depending on how much I get for my 5970 and the gts 250 I bought 3 weeks ago for physx.
If you look at the reviews on the web the ati products compete fairly well in average and max framerate but they lose in almost all games in average bottom frames. ( they do not have the big dips in frames)

I have had my 5970 for 8 months and I like the card but I don't love it!

Pretty sure I will go green in the next month>

I just went the complete other way: i was/am so curious about the Enigmatic setup called Quadfire, that i bought a second 5970 complete with EK waterblock!!

And indeed: this Quadfiring is Funky stuff! Must say i had some problems when plopping in the second card because i just did nothing special.. Got a Code 43 error on one of the 5970 cores.

Just tried some benchmarks with this "semi-three core" and got almost the same results with just one 5970. Also Dirt 2 benchmark: same results but it felt running more smoothly. When turning up the visuals in DIRT 2 i can confirm this: running smooth with highest settings possible 5040x1200.

After messing around with this half-ass solution, i tried it the right way: Uninstall drivers, driver-cleaner, one monitor (so no eyefinity) and reinstall 10.6: after this i got better Benchmark results, (Heaven, 3Dmark) but DIRT 2 ran choppy as hell.

I think that the choppy running is more a memory swamping problem, because the HD keeps swapping like hell during gameplay. Will look into this.

In the mean time i will do a complete fresh install (on a seperate disc) of win 7 32 & 64 bit and will try all available drivers starting from 10.1. This will be done with a clean image so i wont be spending so much time with installing  .
