Switching von Matrox TH -> Eyefinity, good solution?

Post by starfighter »

Hello,
I am currently using GTX 260 with Matrox TH2go.

I want to get an ATI HD 5870 card and use eyefinity( 2 DVI monitors and the third with hp dp>vga adapter)

I am asking the espicially users knowing the Matrox TH solution.

Are there any disadvantages in gaming (compatibility, usability and stability) with the new Eyfinity solution?

ACtually, Besides not having any real desktop management, no. It's been all the better for me. 5040x1050 looks like nothing compared to 5760x1080 im getting now.

I was using a GTX 295 with Matrox TH2go @ 5040 x 1050 switch to a HD5870 EyeFinity notice a 10+ increased if FPS. I can use DX10 and DX11.

I would stay away with CrossFire+ EyeFinity...too many issues at this time.. I still have not gotten EyeFinity to work with CrossFire ..on my 2nd HD5870.

Hi,

I ran a 4870x2 with matrox th2g, ran 3 22 inch lg monitors giving 5040x1050. Was great but sometimes had to lower the res to 4320x900 for some games (3840x800 for crysis)

I upgraded to dual 5850's and 3 x 27 inch monitors (each 1920x1200) eyefinity worked perfectly (even in crossfire mode, not sure why E2badg is having issues)

Only thing is I get that large mouse cursor problem on one of the monitors, doesn't always happen, but usually after i'm using windows media player.

Dual 5850's are much faster than my old 4870x2 but I find that modern games I can't play at 5760x1200, some not at 5040x1050 (battlefield bad company) ATI really have to allow lower resolution options, i'm sure 4320x900 would make all games run well. I'm running latest drivers 10.5.

As suiken_2mieu said, desktop management isn't in eyefinity but it's not that big a deal.

Are you guys using HydraVision? The Desktop Management tool from ATi? This makes a few things really easier, bringing features like the HydraGrid etc.

The only thing that annoys me, is that - in Eyefinity Group - I can't set a video player to "full screen" on just one display anymore. This was (logically) no problem on extended desktop. But this is to less an issue, that I would switch to extended for desktop usage and vice versa.
