PS3's worldwide are comitting harakiri.

Post by The_cranky_hermit »

So, as of a few hours before the time of this posting, people all over the world have been reporting getting "Error 8001050F" on their PS3, including ones that have never been online. Symptoms include:
* Cannot log into PSN
* Date is reset to 12/31/1999
* Downloaded games revert to trial mode
* Blu-Rays will not play
* PS1 games will not play
* Trophies are gone
* Downloaded themes are corrupt

Slim PS3's seem to be immune, but fatties everywhere are malfunctioning.

Seeing a console gut itself with a sword woudl certainly be worth buying one.

I'll be sure to give my PC a big hug when i get home.

Well there is one reason to not hook up your console to the internet, I guess. Even though mine is a Slim, it kinda makes me glad I don't have it hooked up.

Also, some PS3 games refuse to start up, including Heavy Rain.

Just booted up my console. None of the games I have are refusing to play (Downloaded or disk based), though admittedly they're all older games without dynamic trophy support.

Can't sign into my account, getting a generic error (along with everyone else). I did a bit of searching and this is allegedly due to a problem with the date/time (first February of an even numbered year without a leap year).

I'm guessing this might just be a one day thing. Everything should be fine come march 1st.

Not the first time something like this has happened. December 31st of this past year (or two.) Damn I completely forget what it happened to.

EDIT: Found it. http://www.computerworld.com/s/article/9124638/Zune_chokes_on_leap_year_bug

I didn't have any problems? Was playing Cross Edge quite happily for a couple of hours to relax after marking a load of practical scripts... fat 60GB Backwards Compatible UK PS3.

Well, it was Monday I was playing, so... I dunno. Didn't check what the date/time was on the PS3. I set it when I bought it, haven't done so since. Cross Edge has Trophies.

Hang on, I just checked the time on it - says it's the 3/3/2010 today. *shrug* Maybe the date was wacky and I didn't notice?

edit: Come to think of it, it might have been after midnight I was playing... so the 2/3/2010. I know I was having fun with trying to read illegible handwriting for at least six hours...

I've been replaying the first Uncharted over the last few days to try to get all the medals/trophies. I put in the game today, had to re-sync with the server and so I ended up losing 6-7 trophies from the last few days.

I figured that earning another one might resync the medals with the trophies. Nope. Instead, it wipes out all of my trophies and leaves me with only that one. Guess I'm going to have to replay the game from the beginning.

That sucks man.

Frankly, I couldn't give a monkey about Trophies on the PS3. Or Achievements on the 360. Only reason I'm racking up the Achievements in Defence Grid is because I'm finding that game unbelievably addictive. :oops:
