I too would LOVE to see ALL of the EA Sports games in widescreen mode. Tiger Woods 2005, Madden 2005, NBA Live 2005, NHL 2005, Fifa 2005...... would be VERY THRILLED.

Thanks so much!! Would be happy to try myself once you write up the little doc file on how to ecit them!

No matter what I do I simply can't get the KOTOR hack to work.
Any ideas?
(The other ones work just fine)

What do you mean by 'doesn't work'? The program doesn't run after the patch? The program runs, but not in Widescreen? Or (like mine) it crashes after you choose a WS resolution?
Please be more detailed.

I'm a total newbie to these forums, but I've used Wogg's hacks before in the past. I just got my hands on Need for Speed Underground 2 and desperately wanted some custom resolutions, so after 10 minutes with a hex editor I managed to create a patch.

To keep things simple, I just added the patch to Wogg's UniWS patcher... simply download the modified patches.ini and save it over your existing patches.ini. NFSU2 should appear as the last game in the patcher menu.

Have fun :)

The above link to the new patches.ini is not working. Could you please update it? :D

Alright, as I said in the game give-away thread, I created a GUI patcher program that can patch multiple games from within one EXE. All patch information the EXE needs is held in a separate PATCHES.INI file. Therefore, whenever I'm able to crack a new game, I can update the PATCHES.INI, and that will be the only file you'd need to download.

Since this is the initial release, everyone will have to download the following files:

http://www.prismaticorder.com/uniws.exe
http://www.prismaticorder.com/patches.ini

Place them both in the same folder. It doesn't matter which folder this is.

Double-click the UNIWS.EXE file to run the patcher. Using the program is fairly obvious: just pick the game you'd like to patch, find the folder where you installed that game (or click the find it button for help), READ THE DETAILS BOX, fill in the new resolution you'd like to use, then click Patch!

Please post your experience with this program. I'd like to know if it's working for people, and if it has any bugs.

No, because there is no listing for IL2 in the patches.ini file. This working is dependent on someone having figured out which offsets need to be changed.

Hi, I've updated NFSU2 using the latest updater on ea.com and then replaced the stock speed2.exe with a fixed version. I then followed the instructions to change the res to 848x480. The game loads up fine in 1024x768 but when it switches to 848x480 the game crashes.

I reinstalled the original patch and tried it from scratch but I get the same problem. Please help!

had the same problem - delete the "undo" file, re-copy the cracked .exe, re-patch, reboot, and all should be well again.

Thanks for the help. I did what you said but actually still got the same problem, thing is though it worked fine on my LCD monitor (VGA output to LCD vs DVI to projector). I ended up uninstalling the game, reinstalling it with the projector set as my main monitor, stuck with v1.0 and its cracked exe, and for some crazy reason or another it works fine now. :?:

When someone has found the relevant hex offsets, sure. :D

Not a lot of use until we know what to change, and how, though. ;)

I remember I got the game to run @1280x768. So it might even work @1280x800. Make sure you create/have a custom res for your desktop/os at say @1280x768. And that res should be available to select at the config option. You can that run at 1280x768 pixel perfect mode or upscale to your monitor res. You can also change the in game camera mode to wide to see more of the field. Good luck.

Not sure if it's ok to request here Wogg, but have you tried or are you interested in trying to Patch Tiger Woods '05? I love the game and I'm sure the fans of the hacked '04 version here would really appreciate a 16:9 hack for the '05 version.

Here is the link to the DXWRAP.dll from the '05 version that someone kindly hosted...

http://mikegetz.com/dxwrap.rar

Also the idea of Rallisport Challenge making it to 16:9 would be sooooooo sweet, not sure if anyone has had a go at that one yet, but on a large creen that game is a lot of fun.

Thanks for all your work

Joel

Unfortunately, Wogg left the forum a while back (though he may still lurk from time to time). He started up his own business, and that took up a lot of time. He did say that he might be available to hack a game or two, if there was enough interest.

Mird-OC actually provided the hack for TW '04. I just got the "World of EA Sports '04" pack, and Rugby '04, to see if the hack work on other games. No other game has that same .dll file. Rugby and Madden both had widescreen modes out of the box, but Madden was stretched. Look at the screenshots to see what you think.

Some of you may not know what this means, but our man Wogg is who created the Universal Widescreen Patcher. It's the tool that lets you play SW: KOTOR in widescreen (amongst other games).

He had to take a break from he forum, due to a new job. I've been emailing with him recently, and while he doesn't have time to hang around the forums, he said he does have time to try and hack some more games.

I sent him SW: KOTOR2, as well as Tiger Woods 2005, Madden 2005 and the 2004 EA Sports pack. He is also pulling the demos of RCT3 and Evil Genius.

Hi everybody, I'm french and I'm experiencing HTPC on my Pioneer 435 FDE plasma television.

My plasma television only have a hdmi input which only allows 720p or 1080i as HDTV resolution.

I have a radeon 9800 pro with the catalyst 5.6 and my resolution in DVI on my plasma TV is 1216x684 @ 60Hz (the driver allows to have personalized resolution compatible with 720p in order not to have extra zones out out of the screen).

I tried yesterday for the first time the UniWS patcher for NFSU2 @ resolution of 1280x720 and it doesn't work on my plasma tv ?
The program failed to lauch with an error code ?

It does work on my 19" CRT screen in VGA mode and in 1280x720 resolution.

It comes from my plasma tv (and maybe the catalyst 5.6).

Do you have any idea ?

thanks and sorry for my english...

Does anyone have a version of patches.ini that works for either the Simcity 4 rush hour or the deluxe edition? The patches.ini posted here only works for the original simcity 4. I am trying to get UniWS to work in 1680x1050 resolution for those two newer versions of simcity 4.

Thanks guys

Fifth'd.

I've played a ton of games, but have never seen a game that could benefit from widescreen more than Pro Evo 4/WE8

After patching Need for speed underground 1, to 1280x800 (16:10) screen is a little to high (my car is 10 pixels higher in 1280x800 16:10-laptop than 1280x960 4x3-CRT). I maked the precise comparison in photoshop. :?

Here is a config I made for 1680x1050:

I can make others if you request a specific resolution.

Wow, it's been a while. Sorry for the wait.

Here is a config for 1920x1200:

I wasn't able to test it, so please post back if it does/doesn't work.

If Wogg gets a few minutes (or mjrpes or whoever), I have an idea. Rather than constantly having to update this program (which sounds cool, I haven't used it), how about a nice tutorial on hex editing for resolution?

Teach a man to fish and whatnot.

I know with one game, I think it was Vampire Bloodlines, someone had made a patch that didn't work for me, but had typed out how they had hacked it. I reversed engineered the hack and was able to hex edit the relevant .dll file myself.

Anyway, I think this could help the community really expand the heck out of this utility.

Wogg hasn't been on the board in a while, due to demands from his work and life. But, there are other coders on. Hopefully someone can help. There was a mini-tutorial in one of the 06 EA Sports threads, either Tiger Woods or NBA. Paradigm gave a little insight, but I agree a full tutorial would be nice.

Hmmm, I like that idea. I only know the very basics of hex editing myself, so I'm sure other people can pick up my 'skills' quite easily.

I've written up a small tutorial in the howto section of this site:

Alright, I've updated the PATCHES.INI file in an attempt to fix the Prince of Persia problem you guys have been having. It works for some people and not others.. eh.

Please download the PATCHES.INI again from the link above in my previous post and overwrite the one you downloaded before.

Run UNIWS.EXE, set it to Prince of Persia, find the folder, and UNDO the patch if you can. Then go ahead and patch.

Hope it works.
Can anyone help me to get Prince Of Persia - Sands of Time to work in widescreen. At first I tried using the 'POPWS -set 1680 1050' file but it didn't work. It actually made the game limited to 600x800.

So I downloaded the UNIWS.EXE, set it to Prince of Persia, and found the folder. But the option to "Undo Patch" is greyed out. I also can't type in a new resolution. Am I doing something wrong here? Do I need a cracked POP.exe, and if so where would I find it? Thanks for any help.

Thanks for the link. Ok, I tried it again but the game doesn't want to run at 1680x1050. Here's what I did. . .

I downloaded the cracked exe., copied it in the game directory, and made sure that the game works without the CD. . . .

Then I opened UWS Patcher, set the new resolution to 1608x1050, and clicked "patch." Then I went into the game and found the new resolution available. But when I set it to use 1680x1050, the game crashes.

I even tried removing the patch and checking that the game still runs at 1280x1024 and it did. So I set the patch again and tried to use 1680x1050 but it still crashed.

Anyone know why?

Thanks again for the help. :)

When I run UniWS, I can't enter anything in the "new resolution" fields. It seems that while it *looks* like there are two text boxes there, they aren't actually enabled. This means I can't patch KotOR, which means I'm sad.
Am I missing something? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I am having problems with KOTOR and the widescreen patcher. It will patch and play in widescreen fine, but the selectable menus throughout the game (like which dialogue to choose from, switching to a second character) are missing and makes the game unplayable.

I am having to use Nvidia's beta forceware 84.20 because there is a known problem with KOTOR and dual core processors and only the latest beta makes the game playable.

Is there anyway to make this patcher show the menus in the game?

Thanks

When I run UniWS, I can't enter anything in the "new resolution" fields. It seems that while it *looks* like there are two text boxes there, they aren't actually enabled. This means I can't patch KotOR, which means I'm sad.
Am I missing something? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I have the same problem as you, what's going on?

Did you select KOTOR and a certain interface resolution (800x600, 1024x768, etc.)? And then did you click "Find it for me"? Once you do that, then you'll be able to input a custom resolution.

But no luck for me as there are menus and dialogues missing in any custom resolutions that I make.

I fixed my Kotor 2 problem, but in the weirdest way. First I uninstalled the game and reinstalled without patching. Still won't patch. Next I downloaded a crack .exe and patched that. It all works great now, except the mini-map, but I can acces the big map, so no biggie.

Nothing, apparently. I'm playing it stretched, since no one has condescended to even acknowledge the existence of my first post about this. Great "help thread" eh? :P

Nope. The text boxes cannot under any circumstances be selected.
If your version works, do you suppose you could send me your uniws.exe please?
EDIT: Re: your last post, Bokishi... Were you talking about KOTOR or KOTOR2 then?

I'm using the one found here: http://www.widescreengamingforum.com/wiki/index.php?title=Downloads

But still, the dialog text does not appear on custom resolutions. So I can't make decisions and such in the game or select a second character.

Hello, I have recently gotten the UNIWS patcher to get URU running in 1680c1050 widescreen, but in the new dev_mode.dat file it creaters...settings such as coloring are set to 16bit and textures are set to low... I wanted to know if /bow the creater could change the patch so it max's settings out..but I doubt anyone wants to run it with ani/antialiasing on max.. so preferably a few included modified dev_mode files....

I know how to do it myself..but I simply can't code worth anything anymore. It's quite sad, I figured if I could look at the defualt Dev_Mode.dat through many conversion I could see what each value is in binary/hex then put mine in after converting them and make my own new file but.. I simply forgot everything about conversions.

The person who originally coded the UniWS is no longer active on the forum. If you can provide the details on what needs to be done, someone else may be able to pick it up and make the changes.

Here's the topic specific to Uru

Hi, I have no idea how to use the UniWS :p. I open the .exe file, select the game, locate the game folder, but the Patch/Undo Patch buttons stay inactive.

What obvious problem am I missing?

Can you add Wining Eleven/ Pro Evolution Soccer Series to your list?

This would bring the game to another dimension. Me and whole community would be gratefull for this :)

Certain executables are encoded/encrypted so that we cannot access the resolution values directly.

When an individual creates a no-cd executable for a particular game that may allow access to the resolution values. The UniWs will only work for these games with these types of executables.

Out of respect for this site I will not post links to these executables but there are many search engines that may be able to assist you.

Hope this helps.

I have this same problem with KOTOR 2! Nothing seems to work...

Help would be greatly appreciated! TT_TT

EDIT: I got a fixed exe and then UniWS allowed me to change the resolution!
I miss the minimap and those speech bubbles from random people don't show but I think it's a small cost. :P

I tried to modify Need For Speed Underground 2 for the Samsung SyncMaster T220. It works with the resolutions 1680x1050 and 320x200. By using the first resolution the game is lagging (i have a very slow pc^^) the second one looks a bit poor with a 22'' monitor
Every other resolutiuon i tried crashed the game or it was only showed in the left top corner. Is it possible to play nfsu2 in 4:3 with a black stripe on the left and right or are there some 16:10 resolutions in between i could try out?

I'm trying to do this to NFS Carbon, but I can't get the UniWS to allow me to type in a resolution, so I can't update the game.

I am using a cracked version, and used the "Find it for me" button when manually choosing the folder didn't work. Even after a box pops up telling me NFSC was found, I still can't type in the resolution.

Does anyone know what's wrong?

Thanks.

I am trying to use this UniWS patcher on KOTOR but it won't work for one reason or another. It either doesn't let me input the screen settings for a custom resolution(which apparently means I'm not using a crack... which I am) or it just says that patch #2 did not work. I don't understand whats wrong and it's really pissing me off!!! Please help!

I am trying to use uniws to patch Dungeon Lords and the field for entering the resolution never becomes active.
1. Open uniws
2. Select directory in which Dungeon Lords is installed
3. Note cursor is active in the Important Details field
4. Note also that the new resolution field never become active when the tab key is used to cycle through the program.

It appears that this utility does not work.
