Game is completely unplayable with 3 monitors. Everything including the game and menus are zoomed in.

Thanks.

I'm looking into it. I'll post probably in both this thread and the WSF thread when I have news.

I've managed to fix the FOV for surround.

There are some outstanding issues that need addressed before I can release a fix:
* Minimap background will disappear
* Map does not work
* Some menus still are vert-
* Quitting to the main menu with the fix enabled will cause the game to freeze
* Enabling the fix before you reach the main menu will cause the game to freeze
* Remove black bars in non-surround aspect-ratios

Here is a link to download an experimental version:
http://www.widescreenfixer.org/g.lan.7z

Take note of the issues above before using it.

Also,
Since I'm still working on the new version of Widescreen Fixer, there is no slider for FOV adjustment yet.
Instead, the aspect-ratio drop-down box will control the FOV.
It goes by increments of 10 starting at 1.25.

How do you use Wide Screen fixer.

I can't get it to do anything. I have the program and the file. I get LA Noir in the drop down box and what settings do I use from there? The first drop down box on main I put custom and put my resolution as 6080 x 1080. Bezel adjusted resolution for my 3 1920 x 1080p monitors.

On Fov calculator I put source as 1 16:9 and destination as 3 16:9

It says enter the source FOV and press the button. What is this for exactly? pushing the button doesn't do anything. I set the hotkey but when I use it in the game nothing happens, but if I alt tab it says the fix is running.

Sorry for the noob questions but I never used this program before.

Thanks.

Great job, cant wait for the final version :twothumb . Unfortunately yesterday's update on Steam broke the wip fix.

Lol lets see what dopefish can do about it.

Run widescreen fixer, select the game L.A. Noire, the aspect ratio (3 x 16:9), run the game and press ; to activate the fix.
Unfortunately yesterday's update on Steam broke the fix, we will need to wait a bit till dopefish updates the wip tool, or release the final version that should fix also the map and other stuff, please keep checking WSGF.

I've released a new plugin that eliminates a lot of the issues the old one has, plus it works with the latest version on Steam.

The black bars still persist for non-surround aspect-ratios.

The minimap and map now show correctly, and quitting to the main menu no longer freezes the game.

It's now on the main page of Widescreen Fixer and included with the full package.

Test it out and let me know how it works for you.

Thanks for the hard work but I still can't get this to work.

I selected the game from the drop down list and selected 3 x 16:9 for my 3 24" acers and when I hit the hotkey nothing happens.

I alt tab and it says the fix is running but the game is unrecognized?

I've updated the fix yet again.

Download from the main website.

Ignore the part where it says unrecognized. That's purely cosmetic.

damnit, same problem as before. i start up the game with 5760x1200 res. i`ve got 3x16:10 monitors. and running 2x6970 eyefinity.
in the startscreen everything is smooth but zoomed in, then i get maybe 1-2fps ingame and it crashes on occasion. and it does not help trying to enable the fix. widescreenfixer says it enabled. but still got the same zoomed in image and game is stuttering like crazy..

what to do?

I'm working with thales100 to test a new version now.

It's using a newer build of Widescreen Fixer so I'll have to see how I want to handle the release of it.

Alright, I've updated it and got a version that worked pretty well for him and I.

The downside is that it's based on a newer version of Widescreen Fixer. This means you'll need a second copy of Widescreen Fixer around.

http://www.widescreenfixer.org/wsf_test_lanoire.7z

Do not overwrite your old Widescreen Fixer with this one. The old plugins are incompatible with it.

Try this version out and let me know how it goes.

Still no change for me. I confirmed the fix is enabled, and I set it to 3 x 16:9 and the I try applying the fix with multiply when in the game but it doesn't do anything. Anyone got it working? when I alt tab it does say Field of view 0.

I tried the latest widescreenfixer and the LA Noire dll, but it doesn't seem like its working. When I start it up, I set it to 3 x 16:9. Then I start up LA Noire.

After I alt-tab out and check the fixer, it says the Game Running: Yes.
Then go back in the game and hit the activate button, but nothing happens. When I alt-tab again it says Fix Enabled: Yes.
After I exit LA Noire and then close Widescreenfixer, Widescreenfixer crashes upon exit.

I'm running the retail version. In the version.txt in the main game directory, it says:

Date: 13/10/2011 08:51:03
Build: 2382
Code: 704756
Data: LANoire.PC.47 (EFIGS)
Unwrapped YPatcherExe: 1.2.1.0
Wrapped YPatcherExe: 1.2.1.0
YPatcherDLL: 1.2.1.3

Same problem here, nothing happens to the game, tried both wsf version. (Website and the new one a few post above)
Wsf says fix enabled, fov 0.

Game Version = Skidrow.

thales100 and I have the Steam version so that's what I worked with. If the retail version requires a disc in the drive then I doubt I can fix it without obtaining a retail copy. As for the cracked versions, I'll have to see. If I can just download the .exe file and run it on my Steam version without issues then I can maybe make a version for that.

Anyone else who has the Steam version test it please.

Yep, as dopefish said it works great here too (steam version), only some minor flaws left like the in game menu (when you press ESC), but HUD map, full screen map, gameplay and cut scenes look great at multi-monitor resolutions. :onethumb

I tried the files that you sent me but all it does is cause the game to crash on launch.

If you have some time in the future, maybe we can work one-on-one to fix it. It would require installing some software on your system and following my instructions closely.

I will work on adding support for non-Steam versions, but it will take a bit longer. Ideally I want to finish up support for the Steam version-like fixing the menu and size of the HUD-and then work on non-Steam versions. This way when I make the transition it's already ready to port over.

I can use dopefish fix, but when the cases load, the audio goes dead. The only way to run the game for me is with sound, so I can only run it at 1920 X 1200. I've tried everything. I'm going to try running the game in windowed mode. If anyone has the audio issue, please post the fix.

I discovered for those who experience audio dropout issues when running the dopefish fix that if you wait until the level loads up before initiating the * key to correct the aspect ratio, you can play with full audio. There must be something in the .dll file in dopefish's fix that is conflicting with my audio drivers during the loads. Just remember to back out of the aspect ratio fix during tranisitions and you'll be fine. It also could be NVIDIA driver issues. I'm running an Auzentech Forte audiocard with the latest drivers and an 2 480s in SLI at 5760 X 1200 res (6000 X 1200 bezel corrected).

I haven't played it long enough to test audio issues.

I've been working on the Skidrow version but I'm not having much luck. All of the static pointers that should be there like they are in the Steam version just don't exist. I've scanned so much and haven't found what I'm looking for yet.

Obviously this is a labor of love and as you provide a free service I would never demand or expect something from you guys, but I can incentivize.

I just donated 50 bucks to the ChipIn thingy because you guys have helped me out so much in the past. But if you fix my letterboxing in 16:10 problem before I finish the game (I'm 4 cases in on Homicide) then I'll throw in 50 more.

Is it possible to enable the fix after the second mission has started? Maybe it won't crash then. There might be some data in between loading that it doesn't like. I'll have to play the game more and test it out.

I've started working on a version for the Skidrow crack, but it's proven to be difficult as the memory layout is incredibly different.

Thanks landahl, its a 30FPS and black bars fix, wont do anything to multi-monitor screen change behavior (Vert-), btw its jackfuste's stuff, this guy is a legend at Rage3D. :onethumb

I've bookmarked that page and downloaded those files. I'll reverse them to see about incorporating them in my fix.

Hey Dopefish,

Just wanted to let you know I tested out your new test version of widescreen fixer to get LA Noire to run (steam v1.1 version) and here's what I've found:

1). The main menu looks great but as soon as you click on options or esc in the game the menus look wiered (some options sag down the screen)
2). The HUD on the left screen is not scaled properly (no biggie for me)
3). When exiting the game, there's an error message that pops up about read/write errors. (It was mentioned before in the widescreen fixer thread but let me know if you would like me to re-post a picture of the error message).

Other than these minor issues your tool works great!

I know these issues have been mentioned before and other people are proposing fixes for non-steam verisons of the game but any chance you can update us on the status of these fixes and whether or not they will fixed in future releases?

I appreciate all your hardwork and look forward to hearing from you.

Thanks,

kiax0001

I made an account on this here forums to ask for updates on the retail version of the fix.

FYI, you don't need to CD to play, just to install.

Thanks for your time.

1) I'll look into this. I can't remember if I ran into any issues with the menus, but I didn't really go through all the menus. I mostly just tested in-game.
2) I've done no work on HUD centering or scale. The only thing I've implemented is a FOV adjustment. The HUD scaling issue is an issue with the game engine itself. Once I get the FOV working well enough and other versions of the game working fine then I'll go back and work on HUD issues.
3) I'm aware of this. Some changes I've made recently to the code should have prevent that from happening. It's nothing to worry about. Basically, when the game is running and the fix is enabled, it's constantly writing to memory. When you quit the game, it may exit while WIdescreen Fixer is in the middle of writing to memory. Since the process just suddenly vanished, Widescreen Fixer doesn't know what happened and it crashes. I have a solution locally that just does exception checking.

I know these issues have been mentioned before and other people are proposing fixes for non-steam verisons of the game but any chance you can update us on the status of these fixes and whether or not they will fixed in future releases?

I have plans to. It's just difficult to work on a version that you don't have. The cracked .exe file is completely different in layout than the Steam version, which makes it quite a bit more complicated.

FYI, you don't need to CD to play, just to install.

If the retail version did not require the disc in the drive then why would they have copy-protection and cracks online?

I'll get something going for the cracked versions soon.

I couldn't tell you, I just installed with the 2 dvd's. put them in the case and away. and started it with no troubles.

Would it help if you had the exe to the retail verison?

Thanks for the fix dopefish, I have been using your WSFixer for a while now in other games. The version for this game in the 28 December post causes my game to crash after a minute. It does otherwise work the way I expected. Anything I can provide that could help?

Yes. While some of it is implemented there are some outstanding issues that persist with it, so I have it disabled for now until I work those out.

Sure. Upload it here, https://files.gaemsofyesterday.com/
I'll let you know if it bugs me for a CD or doesn't work.

Yes. When does it crash and what are you doing when it does crash? I have experienced some crashes when transitioning between the main menu and the game itself, and sometimes when exiting the game, but I'm not sure if it ever just randomly crashed on me while in the middle of playing. Also, what FOV setting do you have it at? The safe range is 1.25-3.75. While I do allow adjustments outside of it, some awkwardness, or even crashes, may occur above or below that range.

I have been using 3-3.5 (3840/1024=3.75, but is too large a FOV for my taste). I'm assuming the slider is the aspect ratio because it looks it.

Once the game actually starts (get past the cut scene at the start of a case), I have about a minute before it crashes. Without the fix enabled it does not crash, but is nearly impossible to play because of the zoomed in FOV. I can just stand there in the police station, or walk around and it is the same, crashes within a minute when enabling the fix.

Edit: I loaded some older drivers (280.19, had been using 285.79) and played for about 5 minutes with no crash. Any of the newer "BF3" drivers seemed to break a lot of games. For example Crysis+Wars for the MWLL mod and Minecraft-whole system crash, need to re install drivers by using driver sweeper to get the 2nd video card and 3rd monitor back in windows, Magika-if I didn't let the main menu completely load on its own, Killing Floor-getting GPF's every couple minutes, TF2 with CTD with no error, if anything comes up in the event log it points to nvidia drivers, RO2, APB, and I think I can add LA Noire with the Widescreen Fixer to the list just to name a few... The best part is the latest drivers with BF3 support not fix any of those and most full screen games are now broken, including BF3....

I've noticed a trend of Nvidia not really supporting older cards as soon as new ones come out, or at least they break them with newer drivers. Previous to the 280.19's, the only drivers I could use on a daily basis were the 260's from a year earlier. I don't feel a GTX275 is obsolete at all considering I play at 3840 or 4032x1024 which is the same number of pixels as 2560x1600 without much of a performance issue. The only issue is the small frame buffer, 896MB, so I have to turn down some details to keep the video memory usage down. I spent most of last night with a video stress test going to try to rule out a video hardware issue, and had run a few stress tests over the last few days with no issues.

Ok, there are 2 (not sure what you will need)
1. LANLauncher.exe (launches the launcher)
2. LANoire.exe (launches the game directly , takes some time to do so on my computer though)

i dont have this game, but i did note that on other games when running the nvidia beta 290+ drivers i had random crashes, system locks etc.
almost all semeed to happen when in "span" mode, if i went back to one monitor everything was fine. but thats now why i got a triple screen setup!!

i think the latest drivers i was happy with stuff like skyrim and saints row 3, but playing anything else seems to have a ton of troubles.. at least for me it does. i have the THQ pack on steam and alot of THQ games work with 3x screens. but i was getting all kinda crashes after the update :P

revved back to 285 or 284, not at home ATM, and things are much better in span mode (which i am "always" in)
so it could be related to drivers for you too

Hi, I'm playing the Complete Edition from steam, and I'm getting major performance hit when I fire up the Widescreen Fixer. 10-24 FPS at 5760x1080 - all minimal details - 100% gpu use, trifire rig 6990+6970. Do you have any tips for me? Performance hit occurs when I fire up the Widescreen Fixer at 1080p.

Have settings to 3x16:9, FOV cal 3x16:9 both. Tried restarting WSF and doing same while game running, no change. Any suggestions? BTW Steam version here...

I was able to load the next mission without using the fix. After mission is loaded, then execute fix. But again, when going to the next it crashes.. weird. Maybe I can toggle in and out at end and beginning of missions.. I will try this tomorrow.

Im sure you understand that this is NOT dopefish' fault, blame R* for the absolute lack of multi-monitor support, dopefish is trying to add something that was not created by game' developers, sometimes its "just" really hard, other times its impossible or will cause major flaws, please lets be patient as he is trying his best (im also waiting for a multi-monitor solution).

I haven't made much progress on this plugin yet. I've been really focused on porting over the old plugins to the new version and cleaning everything up. Basically I'm trying to get the test version to a point where I can remove the old version and make the test version the new stable release. It's been working really well and has a lot of great features the old version lacks. Once I get everything ported over and settled, I'll dedicate a lot of time to this game. I haven't even really had a chance to dig in and play it yet since I'm waiting for my own fix. ;)

I've actually worked on the plugin some in the last couple of days.

I cleaned up the solution I had to where it's more consistent with better control.

However, I have not pin-pointed the cause of the crash yet.

I'm still working on it.

Thanks for the donation; it's always appreciated.

I am no longer able to select surround resolutions in the options menu. Is there a way to run this game in surround mode anyway?
Supposedly you can put "-res x y" into the command line section of the settings but when I do they are ignored and whatever is selected in the drop down box is used instead.

Yes. Post-patch I have not been able to use surround at all.

I think adding DX11 support is great, but they're doing it to increase the performance. However, the game is locked at 30 FPS, and I was getting 30 FPS before. What performance is there to gain?

Maybe better performances from the actors for tertiary characters?

Hey Guys,

So is this game officially ruined then for surround support? I too noticed that the v1.2 patch basically has removed the eyefinity/surround resolutions from the options menu. I've even tried editing the settings.ini file in my documents and it would keep changing it. Changing the ini file to read only won't even boot up La Noire.

This really sucks. I've been following this thread waiting for dopefish to hopefully release a new version of the plugin but now with this update it seems that won't be likely.

Any way we can downgrade back to the previous version through steam?

Let me know,

Thanks,

kiax0001

A new patch has been released on Steam with an interesting fix:

• Steam overlay now works in DX11 mode.
Fixed issue where a small number of valid display resolutions were missing.

All,

I've emailed the rockstar support team regarding the locked resolution problem as a result of the 1.3 patch.

The support team member said that they are forwarding the email to their developer team for review (can attach email later if anyones interested in reading it)

I advise everyone who's interested in getting this game to work on 3 monitors to do the same.

My hope is that they will unlock eyefinity/surround resolutions again and allow dopefish to continue his work on his solution.

As of right now, the current patch has destroyed any possibility of getting this game to work in surround/eyefinity.

Thanks,

kiax0001,

As suggested I emailed them as well. Just bought on steam as I remembered that there was a working fix thanks to Dopefish & mates. As the 1.1 version of LA Noire on steam works with widescreen fixer, Does anyone know/can the game be reverted to version 1.1? Think this was possible on Skyrim a while back (as in reverting to a previous version)..

Cheers,

G.

Just bought the game today and can confirm it still works in eyefinity. You just have to do the windowed mode thing before launching the game. http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2356759

Does this windowed mode work with DopeFish's patch? His work has been immensely helpful.

Sorry. I should have added that you use the windowed mode thing with the flawless widescreen fixer and then load the game. Then you can select your eyefinity resolution from the in game settings menu. Lastly hit alt + enter and you will be in fullscreen eyefinity with proper fov.

Using flawless widescreen using the setting stated above I can run it across all three monitors, but for some reason ALT + Enter is not maximizing the game. Does anybody know why this is?

Here is a photo of how it is stuck:

Alt-Enter works for me.... I'll review the way it is launched at some stage.

I have the same situation as you-alt +enter does not work for me as well. BTW it does for other games eg. BF3.

@ Slinky, on what screen do you hit alt + enter and it works? Also what drivers are you on?

@ HaYDeN, thank you.

Alt-enter doesn't work for me either when I run in dx9, but is fine in dx11, however 3d vision doesn't work in dx11 so would be really useful to find a way to maximise the screen in dx9.

I all, I've been trying to get this running with the latest Steam version of the game and neither Widescreen Fixer nor Flawless Widescreen appear to detect the current steam version of the game.

If you force Steam 1.3 in either then a new resolution appears in the game something like 1440x900x605040x1050x60800x600x60 which appears to be a combination of 3 resolutions together presumably because the memory hack is inserting the new resolution at the incorrect location in memory.

System: 3 screen 5040x1050 desktop resolution. (EVGA Nvidia 670 GTX x 2 SLI)

Steps to reproduce:

1. Download and install the latest version of L.A. Noire in steam.

2. Startup your chosen widescreen correction utility.

3. Enable the L.A. Noire fix, select latest steam version in the version dropdown

4. Startup L.A. Noire launcher and set the Comman Line option '--windowed' under options

5. Launch game

6. Click options --> video in the title screen

7. Cycle through resolutions.

If you select this resolution, all three screens you are presented with a blank screen until you alt-F4.

Tabbing out to view the widescreen utility window indicates that the fix is NOT enabled.

Will there be a fix for this, or would I be better off giving up and *GASP* playing on a single screen?

Either way thanks to all those who work on these widescreen fixes, this is the first game I have encountered for which there is a fix and it has ceased to function. So sincerely, thank you to all volunteers for making our widescreen gaming lives so much simpler!

I get the same behavior under Flawless Widescreen with version 1.3.1.1 of LA Noire from Steam. With the fix enabled and starting up LA Noire with the --windowed parameter, I can go to the resolution options and see an additional choice of resolution with a bunch of resolutions strung together in one big string. But, when I select it, I just get black on all three monitors. So far, I ended up just playing the first couple of cases single-screen.

start the game in dx11, Alt-Enter isn't even needed for me...the game starts in full screen.
dx9 however, the game isn't in full screen mode and the Alt-Enter doesn't work.

as mentioned, 3D vision only works correctly with dx9. would you please take some time to look into this issue?

thanks

I might be a little late on that one... But, you know, Pile of Shame... :hide:

So, I finally decided to play L.A. Noire... Turns out the fixes available for the game won't work for me or at all. Flawless Widescreen adds a resolution to the game... But instead of the configured 2560x1080 resolution, 2560x1440 is added... WideSreenFixer adds a strange string to the resolution list just as described above.... Selecting this one and I get a black screen.

So anybody actually got L.A. Noire working in 21:9?

21.9 works great. don't open flawless and widescreen fixer in same time. just open flawless and you can change resolution.

Hi All, (my first post on WSGS) I came on here to pop my cherry and say that I got this game on steam for $15 on sale about a year ago and I'm so upset that it doesn't work in triple screen properly. Anyhow the steam version is automatically updated to the newest version when downloaded so I'm pretty much SOL from what I gather.

I use Nvidia surround in a portrait array, I'm running 3240x1920 @ 120hz.

So far the widescreen fixer is not adding any resoltuion and it's only helping to uncap 30fps and bumping me to 60.

The only way I can even get the game to launch is by going into Landscape mode and running the game but it's only displaying on one monitor.

I've searched the web like crazy and can't find a fix.

Anytime I try to go portrait I get a error saying "LanLauncher has stopped working" By trial and error I realized SLi is fine to keep enabled, even triple screen works in landscape as far as launching the game, but once I go portrait that error pops up every time.

Editing the preferences file does nothing, and if I make the preferences file read only I get an exception error.

Bottom line, I think it may be best to download a old version of this game via BitTorrent and play that way. I bought a legal copy so I feel it's within my right to do so.

Any way to avoid this or am I actually SOL to run this in portrait nv surround? Did the older version work in portrait triple monitor as far as anyone knows?

Its working for me --> Use Flawless Widescreen for proper Widescreen: I updated screens for 21:9, 3x16:9 and 4K --> http://www.wsgf.org/dr/la-noire/en

Fix is a little clunky at the moment, you need to launch the game with --windowed (add this to the command line paramemters in the L.A. Noire launcher, not the steam launch options), then go to settings in the game and choose resolution then change it to the newly availible resolution, after launching you can disable the fix to allow you to navigate in game.

It isn´t working for me. I can´t select 3440x1440x120hz ingame.
Max resolution is 2560x1440. Anybody knows, how to fix it?
It is one of my fav games. I really want to try it out in 21:9.
Widescreen fixer removes only the fps cap and flawless widesreen doen´t seem to work.

then go to settings in the game and choose resolution then change it to the newly available resolution
