Considering that the game is certified I would hope so. 8)

Is this issue proper to either the original game or Enhanced Edition only ?

I do not think everyone gets the problem but it happens for both versions.

New grade, to reflect new rules:

Calculated grade: B+

FMV stretching in TH is a blemish

CCE: 100%

Hello everyone (thanks for the very informative forum)

The Witcher works great on TH2Go (in game) but I dont seem to be able to see the films and animations anymore (I see only a small portion, or nothing at all and I can only hear the dialogs)...

Is there something I am missing, a setting or a tweak that could make this work in TH2Go?

THanks

JEFX

We all wish it was that simple. Unfortunately this flaw is with the game engine and until either racer or dopefish have a look we will be waiting on the games developing studio; who will probably never fix it because they already released a huge patch for it last year.

Hi guys, I just started playing this game on an Eyefinity setup. Everything seems to work fine except for the cut scenes. I still get sound and subtitles, but the animation freeze at the first frame. The game returns to normal once the cut scene is over. I think it's similar or same as the problem JEFX is having. Anyone have a fix?

Just wanted to share a workaround I found. Setting the Lighting Quality to "Low" allows the cut-scenes to play correctly. Not ideal, but better than no cut-scenes.

So, if the cut-scenes were still fubarred on the portrait setup, then it wouldn't be an aspect ratio issue, unless it just doesn't like anything except perfect 16:9 or 16:10 for widescreen (since 3x1-P is damn close to 16:9.5). It must be a super-high res issue.

Can you try rotating your panels and testing this solution in 3x1-L?

From what I read on various forums, the only two workarounds that consistently work are to lower Lighting Quality to "Low", or to run in a 16:9 (not 16:10) aspect ratio. 3x Portrait is 15:8 unfortunately. I tried various resolutions available to me (down to 1800x800), and got the same problem.

I can't do landscape because I literally don't have the space for it. But

I did some testing in 3x1-L without turning the monitors. Just had to turn my head. Pretty annoying, but it works...

I'm in the middle of a relocation right now so it's a bit chaotic. A lot of stuff are packed up already. I'll try next week when I'm done moving.

Sorry to necropost.

But it seems there's no centered HUD fix nor a ingame cutscenes not an FMV stretching fix in The WItcher 1 - correct?

Hi,

So I guess as the game is a bit old now, there's no chance to have a patch to fix the video stretching while playing in triple screen?
I think then I'll play this game on one monitor only ^^

And sorry to necropost as well ^^

Thanks

I believe The Witcher is on the coder's list of things to do. But not a priority. I'm sure they'll get to it eventually.

I will defo look at it;)) and see if I will be able to make it properly...but currently I am focusing on other games:) As you might know I already made Dragon Age: Origins, Dragon Age 2 and Bioshock 2 for Multi-screen rendering and those are also older games;)) I cannot give an ETA but is defo on my list at least;))

Trust me, I'm the last person to suffer from impatience (In fact, I should be giving a lesson or two on patience with some people...), but I am a little concerned that a year will go by again and the thread will be forgotten!

I'd also like to know if The Witcher 1 works in 21:9, since I have a 34" AOC incoming and planning on playing both games before The Witcher 3 is released.

I know The Witcher 2 has a flawless widescreen fix, but how about this one..?

34" AOC buddy
TW1 is natively Hor+, it works in 21:9 out of the box.
Beyond 16:9 all real-time rendered cinematics including dialog scenes are strangely distorted. Setting lighting to Low helps a bit, for some reason.

I suppose there isn't a way to force the game to go into 16:9 mode during dialog/cutscenes?

Not that I know of.
Maybe with the Borderless Gaming app: start the game in a 16:9 window, let BG "convert" it to your native res, then kill the BG process for dialogs/cut-scenes ? If this works it's only marginally quicker than just changing the resolution manually, but maybe worth a shot.

Anyone have a huge problem with the large corona in surround mode?

Image

Any way to remove that?

UPDATE: Fixed it by replacing default SLI bits to 0x0240000D. Used nvidia inspector.

Works very well. Only issue is that I can't see the quest announcements. They don't pop up any more.

Otherwise, working very good. Thanks!

UPDATE: It seems that the fix causes blue screens. Always having to force restart.

I am also currently playing this game and I've noticed that it breaks the Dice Poker minigame, you can't click on the dice that you want to reroll. Also if I'm not mistaken it makes the "Remains" message disappear after you defeat a monster in combat. Other than that I love this fix, I finally can play the game in surround with non stretched convos, fmvs, cinematics, and with high lighting turned on!

Awesome! Thanks a ton jackfuste.

Now if I could just get The Witcher 1 to stop crashing my display drivers, then i could enjoy this game again.

Maybe crash is SLI related? Try to play without SLI.

Figured it out. You have to disable AA in the graphics option. For some reason the game's in-house AA caused display driver crashes.

Thanks for fixing Dice Poker, now I can take Zoltan's money in surround with bezel management!
I was mistaken about the "Remains" message. For some reason it doesn't pop up for the man eating plants from the cave in the outskirts of Vizima. I started a new game to check it and it worked just fine.

There is also a common crashing issue if you use the games launcher to play the game instead of making a shortcut directly to witcher.exe.

I've downloaded the Zip file but what do I do now? where do I need to extract it too. when I run it I just get a series of Error messages.

"Program can't start because binkw32.dll is missing" "Program can't start because mss32.dll is missing" and "Program can't start because CommonLibs.dll is missing"

any help with this? I know it's a old/long running thread.

For any one playing the enhanced edition from GoG I've found that only the first version of the patch works well with it.
The others have messed up menus and the HUD only has the signs section of the HUD visible magnified and near the centre of the screen, I guess the rest of it is stretched off screen.
Could be a conflict between GoG changes and the centred HUD fix, the HUD is fine in the unpatched version at 21:9.

FMV and cutscenes are working well.
Dice game also works fine.
The quest announcements and notices of entering new areas have some of their text cut off.

You need to replace the witcher.exe already on your system with the one from the zip.
Make a copy of the old one first so it's easy to go back if needs be.
It's in a folder called system in the games install directory, the dlls it needs are there.
