If possible, have you tried deactivating SLI mode when running the game?

If you can't do that with SLI, then just ignore this post, I don't have any experience with SLI/CrossFire.

I tried the demo and it worked perfectly for the first launch, but after I changed some settings and restarted as it asked me to do, the game won't start anymore. It just shows blackscreen for a moment and then the whole UI dissapears as well as my mouse cursor on Windows. I had to use keyboard to navigate taskmanager to shut it down. Now, even if I remove the game settings from my documents the game doesn't work. :(

I'm running Eyefinity with 5850.

EDIT:

For some reason a reboot seem to fix it. :?

[quote]Hmm this game works for me in surround, but FPS is unplayable, 12fps or worse. Something is very wrong. SLI 480s should not have a problem with what seems to be a source engine game. Runs fine on one monitor though.

Same here with SLI 275's, 15FPS, 28 at the main menu. Also experiencing some flickering in the profile selection screen.

EDIT: Rename Amnesia.exe to Penumbra.exe.

Although I am getting some strange flickering. Some lights, shadows and the inventory flicker.
I figured the engines had to be similar to peneumbra, and the custom made profiles for Amnesia did not 'take'.
Yes, it is built on the Penumbra HPL engine.

I'm afraid we have some "inverted stretching" going on on 2D screens... Although the inventory looks ok in all ARs, proportions are not maintained.

I'm new, so sorry if this is a dumb question, but is there any way to get this game running at 852 x 480?
Not a dumb question, and yes! There is. 8)
Display settings are saved in DocumentsAmnesiaMainmain_settings.cfg so simply open this file in Notepad and edit this line (these are the default settings, your mileage may vary) :
Code:
<Screen Width="1024" Height="768" FullScreen="true" Vsync="false" />

[quote]Since the game is natively Hor+, this FOV value is probably the vertical FOV.

Maybe you are right, but when I increased the FOV to 100 on my 16:10 monitor I got a crazy fish eye effect, doesn't that mean that the FOV has been increased Horisontally?Oh yes it has, as a result of the higher vert FOV. What you get is Hor+/Vert+ or "zoomed out" gameplay.

16:10, FOV=70

16:10, FOV=85

You can witness the opposite behavior on the main menu: the FOV narrows as you start a game, so the camera is "zooming in" on the door. You can even edit the default and zoomed FOV values in menu.cfg ;)

Is this actually a problem? Looks more like a matter of preference to me. Take a look at the original Penumbra games in Surround, I prefer this slightly smallish hud to that giant stretched unreadable hud.

All subjectivity aside, it's a flaw in general widescreen support, that's all I'm saying.

Alright, I respect your opinion.

So.... Hows about some certification?

Well, surround gaming does not work at all for me.

I run Amnesia in Eyefinity mode (3x 1920x1080) and I get this huge stretched image on my left and right screen (*attachment), the middle one is fine.

I tried to fiddle with the FOV setting in configgame.cfg but I couldn't solve it.

So if anyone has an idea how to get a descent image without the huge stretching it would be greatly appreciated.

This is not exactly stretch, your setup works fine.
Objects on the far sides appear to be closer to you than when you face them: that's just how 3D games look like in ultra-wide aspect ratios... which 3x 16:9 sure is.
 The Truth About Edge Distortion

One way to "fix" this, is for the game to use three cameras (one per screen). Some flight sims can do that. Most games just don't.
It can be distracting at first, but you'll get used to it - just focus on the central portion of the display and let your peripheral vision enjoy the rest.

Yeah I thought so.. but in this game it is far worse then in any other (like crysis or such).

I've made a fraps-recorder to show the amnesia gameplay: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WAGzPFh-YWE&hd=1

So if anyone has any idea how to make it better.. would be great.

For comparison I also made an eyefinity video of crysis http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XPyL6xtZQDA#t=0m40s

1680x1050 and 1920x1200 work ok too :!:

( do i need to provide a sample at 1680x1050:?: )

Yes, it is built on the Penumbra HPL engine.
It's actually HPL2.
HPL1 is opensource already: http://github.com/FrictionalGames/HPL1Engine ;)

With SSAO samples at 32 max and SSAO texture to Medium ?
It's a steady 30fps ( even without frame limit ) at 1920x1200/HIGH on my GTS250.

Honestly, looks fine to me, but maybe you messed with the FoV? Try restoring the defaults and redoing it, I didn't need to edit the .ini to get my TH res, it was selectable from the config utility, and the FoV was correct.

EDIT: Took another look, I think your FoV is too low, try increasing it, when I get home and can check, I'll post what mine is set to.

List of widescreen resolutions that were not tested:
1280 x 720
etc.

Please list them all next time. The idea of this list is to provide a "TBD" so that other people can see what needs to be tested quite clearly.

Anyway, I confirm support for all these resolutions:
1280x720
1280x768
1280x800
1440x900
1680x1050
1920x1080
1920x1200

And with that, the game gets a B+, with the inventory screen squashing (why?) its sole blemish.

Wow, took a look at the video, your FoV still looks a little off, but there is definitely a bigger issue here, and I honestly don't know what it is, have you tried reinstalling?

I've been having the same FPS problem as the other folks here.

The game runs silky smooth at 1920x1080 but at surround resolutions I only get 15FPS.
6080x1080 is unplayable. :(

I have a pair of Superclocked GTX 480s, so this shouldn't be an issue!

I tried renaming the exe to penumbra.exe but to no avail.

It looks like bad driver support from nVidia. Maybe it will be fixed in the next release...

In the meantime, does anyone have any suggestions on how to fix this?

Thanks,
Dan

This game has the same mouse issues as Penumbra.

The wider the screen gets, the slower horizontal mouse movement becomes. It makes the mouse feel weird in widescreen, and completely out of whack in surround.

I wish they would fix this problem already :(

Wow, seems like everyone had an issue with the game but me.

Yep. I can concur that the game runs terrible in Surround resolutions. I am running two GTX 580 in SLI @ 6050x1080 and the game is simply unplayable.

Perhaps this might be a good game for Lobbying Central? All they really need to do is add separate sensitivity controls for the mouse's horizontal and vertical axis so we can fix the problem ourselves.

Hoping I can help anyone else that has performance issues with triple screens (specifically NV Surround)
**Please note all settings below resulted in the best possible visuals to maintain playable framerate (~30)
***Any setting not mentioned was set to High/Full/ON, etc so as to max the visual settings.

If using Nvidia cards, be sure to rename Amnesia.exe to Penumbra.exe (this resulted in huge fps increase alone due to SLI Profiles)

1) Graphics Options:
SSAO Resolution set to MEDIUM
HIGH results in 17fps, MEDIUM results in 55fps (at title screen)

2) Graphics Options:
SSAO Samples 16 (recommended) = 55fps on title screen / 35fps avg in first section of game
SSAO Samples 32 = 40fps on title screen / 25fps avg in first section of game

3) Post Processing:
I had to turn OFF Image Trail for surround, it bleeds and distorts waaaay too much (Image Trail ON at 1920x1080 was fine)
This did not affect my fps, it was just a visual effect that caused everything to look horrible in surround mode.

4) OPTIONAL - Fix shadow flickering = turn shadows off (of course you lose all shadows, so not really a fix, but it will stop the flicker, and probably increase your fps a bit too)

I noticed while changing some options IN-GAME, the engine would crap out or halve my fps. Exiting game and reloading fixed this. If need be, you can make changes via the launcher first, it should still apply them, even if you have to manually launch the 'Penumbra.exe'

Mouse Sensitivity while in surround:
In surround, this game will also screw up the mouse on the horizontal access; aka takes longer to pan left/right. You can up the mouse sensitivity in game, but then the vertical axis seems way to fast. If you are lucky enough to have a mouse that supports independent x-y sensitivity (aka Razer Naga, etc), you can easily get around this limitation and ramp up your X-axis, but keep the Y-axis the same value.

Well I hope if anyone comes back here and searches for this game that this will help them. I figure that on dual 1gb 460s (pretty low end) that if I can run this game, then other configs with more juice should be able to at least start off with my settings, and increase options from there until they hit the 30fps wall in game.
