You need to start in windowed mode first, and change the resolution after. Stick this in your launch options (right-click game in Steam, click 'Properties', click 'Set Launch Options'):

40MB patch today broke R405 widescreenfixer or is it just me?

I have posted an alternative here which involves leaving your system in surround mode and setting up snap to window boundaries and a new windows shell to move taskbar to centre monitor. No more mode switching. Unfortunately Nvidia hasnt enable any hotkey/profile switching like ATI.

Unfortunately this is one of the side effects of having an increased field of view. Much like a fish eye lens on a camera, the wider the FOV the greater the distortions.

The only way around this really is to reduce your horizontal FOV which unfortunately reduces your vertical FOV at the same ...

I think you'll find its the HBAO effects. I can run at 6040x1080 everything on Ultra at 100-115FPS pretty constantly with only a very occassional drop to 85FPS in Operation Guillotine.
It's very smooth!
Runs CPU @ 47% and all 4 GPUs at 90-95%.

The big killer is the HBAO and deferred AA ...

It wont work for any full screen apps. Only works for windowed apps. For what you want your only choice is using multi-monitor.

I just discovered that you can use Matrox PowerDesk software on Nvidia Surround to setup virtual monitors, it's similar to Hydragrid on Eyefinity setups but seems to work better.
Finally I can leave my system in surround view 6040x1080 with 4way SLI and use the monitors as 3 individual monitors ...
