Yea I know what you mean but I will wait for the next generation of monitors before getting three new matched ones. They will for sure have thinner bezels, be slimmer and look better than ...

I was facing the same situation as you. I have the same Powercolor card as well (see my specs in sig).

I have decided that my HD5850 will struggle if it has to drive 3 HD screens so Im just going to add another 1050 X 1680 screen to my setup.

What inputs do the philips and dell monitor have?
If they do not have a display-port input, then you may need to get an adaptor to vga/dvi (the dvi needs to be an "active" adaptor).

Philips monitor - 1 X VGA, 1 X DVI
Dell monitor - 1 X VGA, 1 X DVI (with HDCP)

I used to game regularly spanned across my 2 20" monintors on XP but like I mentioned that option has vanished with Vista...something to do with "architectural differences" or something like that!!

Yes it can. Its done through displays manager in CCC. Press f1 for help on the different modes when you have selected displays manager. Your choices will be "stretch horizontally" and "stretch vertically".
