My Bandwidth Calculator has been updated with more accurate and useful results and info.
I also added info on the latest v1.3 of the DisplayPort standard (not finalized yet).
DP1.3 compressed bandwidth is noted below the calculator so now you can dream of the huge screens you will be able to game ...

Will the patch be avail in the near future? Was considering replaying MP2 (i I can get i to run on Win7) but only if I can get it to look "normal" on 1920x1080 obviously :)

Oh! And in case you did not know, I did not read your entire article just barely the first paragraph.

Actually no, that's not true, I did read the entire article as that is the only way I can legitimately critique something without being seen as a hypocrite.

Fisheye
This is somewhat related:

Although I call it the fisheye effect.
Ideally games could have two FOV related options:

Re: Widescreen Bandwidth Calculator
Actually, i had to mess around even more. No two sources give the same numbers or calculations.
They mix raw bandwidth with the various timing modes, and fail to note which is which.
Wikipedia is really horrible on this.
I ended up just doing the MHz plain, and the Gbit now has a 3.56 ...

Re: Merry HIS-mass: Win an HIS Radeon HD 6870 Turbo Eyefinity4
Considering that the 6870 is currently one of the fastest single core DX11 GPUs, and the fact that the 6870 is built on a now seasoned design it's hard to go wrong with this card.
Full HD single or multimonitor, Eyefinity or not, this card should be able to handle it all, time to enjoy some ...

Ok a bit extreme example there. (over 10:1 aspect heh)
But yeah along those lines, obviously the view here is different from a 1st person or 3rd person.

Re: Fisheye (None or optional)
Hmm! AMD and Nvidia could expose this through an API,
so that there could be one frustrum per GPU.
The game engine would simply get the details from the API (angle/views etc).

Re: DPI Calculator
I may however tab the different parts of the calc tool, just so its easyer to read/use each of the elements.
Hmm, maybe move or remove the "the new and improved..." text too (to below the calc maybe), as it eats up some lines that the calc could have started at instead.
Or maybe even just ...

DPI Calculator
I mentioned this in my lobby rambling on "fisheye" distortion,
but I realized I never posted this here.
You might wonder what a DPI calculator has got to do with games, but a few games actually does poke the OS and ask what the DPI is.
I had a 21.5 inch 1920x1080 (0.248 mm pixel pitch) set ...

Re: Fisheye (None or optional)
Funny you should mention the HUD and Text.
look at the first original image, the HUD and text is stretched/distorted there.
In my "correct" mockup they look normal again (as they have been un-stretched).
Now don't get me wrong, it's not the perspective projection I have an issue with,
but ...

Re: Fisheye (None or optional)
I'm talking about the artificial "fisheye", there have been games that does not have it or it's minimal/unnoticable.
This does however mean that the game engines must be tweaked, camera positioning must be tweaked, perspective compensation.
Right now pretty much all renderers are ...

Fisheye (None or optional)
48:10 (5040x1050)
Gah! Why the heck do all these engines have the darn fisheye effect.
Fisheye made sense when there was only 4:3, but with 16:9 or wider it's hardly needed, and if anything there should be a fisheye on/off option for games.

Re: Suggestion for a change to the Cert grading! Aspect+.
There is one thing you could do right now that would harm nothing, just slightly change the Anamorphic criteria for the WSGF certification to allow the masking to be user selectable.
We never penalize games for giving the user choice, as long as at least one of the choices meets the criteria, it ...
