No other solution has worked so far except this one!
This should definitely get a sticky or somesuch. It absolutely WORKS for adding 1024 x 768 resolution with the black bands properly on the right and left (pillbox).
I couldn't get it to do 800 x 600 (sigh, diablo 2) but ...
