So I've noticed, since the release of the 5000 series, there haven't been many video cards that support 6 monitors.
I bought into Eyefinity 6 because I thought it would be a standard model, as the 5870 Eyefinity 6 was a reference card.

Here's a list of the GAMING cards that support 6 monitors in Eyefinity:
*One DVI can be a Dual Link Port, but it disables one of the DisplayPorts.

Here's a list of the PROFESSIONAL cards that support 6 monitors in Eyefinity:

And for giggles, the GAMING cards that only support 5 monitors:
Here's a list of the PROFESSIONAL cards that support 5 monitors in Eyefinity (also for giggles):

Future / Rumors / In the Wild / Unreleased / Vapor-ware:

These aren't video cards, but they are HUBs that will allow you to use up to 3 monitors from an existing DP 1.2 or MiniDP 1.2 on a 6000 series or higher card. These HUBs are DP++ which means you can use passive adapters instead of active. These are different from the TH2Go, mView Module, or DP 1.1 HUBs, as those are just video splitters. Think of these as USB HUBs, but for monitors. Depending on whether you have bought your cards or not, it may be cheaper to buy an adapter from this list rather than a card from above.

Grr, why the 7870 and not the 7970 for the E6 mDP cards this time around?

They did the 6870 last time too. I have no idea, it doesn't make sense. You need more power to run more monitors.

Yep, one would think that a 6-port card would be target at enthusiasts that need the top of the line GPU. Instead, many of these mid-range seem to be video-wall targeted, not gaming.

I was always under the impression AMD went with DVI-D when they started using DP architecture. I might be wrong though.

The ones that have one DVI port are generally DVI-I. I haven't seen one that wasn't. The ones with two have 1 of each, and if they are 6000 series and older, the DVI-D port is single-Link.

DVI-I just means it can do analog and digital signals. DVI-A is analog only.

Does any one know if the new Sapphire 7950 Flex edition, support 5 monitor Eyefinity?

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814102995

Also do any of the 7000 series cards with 5 display outputs support 5 monitor eyefinity?

It might... It should. Since it can run all DVI / HDMI ports at the same time, you should have no-problem getting all ports to function and create a group.
You'll still need two active cables for the miniDP, but that shouldn't be an issue. I'd say, take a gamble on it.

Yes, the ones above in the first post are confirmed to do so.
