21:9 and VAC bans

Post by ggp759 »

Hi guys. Am thinking of joining the 21:9 crowd but i have some concerns. What happens when games dont natively support the ratio and i have to use flawless widescreen to fix it? Are there any incidents of VAC bans using the program? I did search around the net but could not find something concrete. Any help? I dont dont want to invest in that and have my experience hindered by this concern. Thanks a lot.

I have been playing StarCraft 2 on the Battle.net servers for the last 2.5 months with a 17:9 monitor using the WSG fix to get my native res. of 4096x2160 and have had not BANs or warnings what so ever. And SC2 is a very competative game so you should be fine.

Thanks for the quick reply. Starcraft 2 though does not use VAC since its not on steam. Any experience with steam specifically? Thanks again.

Hi and :welcome

Have been playing on 21:9 for 2 years now. Also have used Flawless Widescreen and Widescreen Fixer with steam games. I have not been banned or heard of someone that has been using the same setup. Hope that helps.

Thanks a lot guys for your insights. While checking on how to make certain CoD games work with my 21:9 screen I too discovered the VAC topic. I then researched the whole topic in detail. Right now I would conclude the following:

- Only worrisome on VAC protected games which are not too many: http://store.steampowered.com/search/?c ... win&page=1
- VAC protection usually only affects multiplayer gaming = for max. safety don't 21:9 hack on multiplayer
- No real confirmation of VAC bans due to 21:9 / FOV hacks

I strongly hope that 21:9 aspect ratio will become standard in any upcoming game but due to the console porting situation I am not too sure.
In the end the more users are on 21:9 the more game developers will be pressured to deliver state of the art aspect ratios.

I have played all the COD series games but COD:BO3 with Widescreenfixer or Flawless Widescreen in multi-monitor and in multi-player and prestiged a couple of times before getting bored and never been VAC banned. So I'm not all that worried but you never know right?
I't always seem risky since no one really knows and no one can confirm that they actually been banned for this fixes rather than just cheating. But i usually get bored of the multiplayer part after the first couple prestige and will probably not pick up the game again, so no biggie. Also i will be a pain in the ass and scream at the devs for forcing us to use 3rd part tools to play the broken games and never buy it again until they support wider screens and FOV's that actually not make me puke allover my keyboard.

THIS! "Also i will be a pain in the ass and scream at the devs for forcing us to use 3rd part tools to play the broken games and never buy it again until they support wider screens and FOV's that actually not make me puke allover my keyboard."

Perfectly described :) We really need to be maximum vocal about missing 21:9 support as otherwise nothing much will change with certain developers.

Thanks a lot for giving me some more comfort trying out Widescreenfixer / Flawless with CoD games soon. I just want to quickly rush through the singleplayer stories and then put it into my archive ;)

I've been using many FOV/resolution fixes on many VAC-enabled games over the past 6 years, and have never had a problem.

Indeed, i will stalk them on every social channel and forum i can think of and post and scream several times a day about it IF they ban me for using a FOV/AR fix.

OT; Damn that looks like a beast of a monitor you have, my buy finger is itching really bad. Is it good, and how is it compared to triple wide? :wtf:

I've read a few people saying that they were VAC banned for using Flawless widescreen on Dark Souls 2. But those softbans were all over the godamn place so it's hard to really prove the fix was the issue.

Yeah the Dark Souls 2 release came with a slew of bans for the most inane things, it was really kind of hilarious in retrospect. However, outside of fluke occurrences like that, I haven't heard of anyone getting VAC banned for using Flawless widescreen or anything of the sort.
