Hi All

Wanting to get your expert inputs to setup either a 3x2 or a 2x2 video wall for our University. Having checked other expensive commercial solutions , have decided to try my hands at setting up Eyefinity for the video wall.

Our contractors are planning to use the commercial TV model LG-47LS35A for this setup. Will need get your inputs for

1. Which AMD cards can support 6 display out
2. Most of the cards have D-port or mini D port output while the TV have HDMI input. If we purchase a converter cable will there be any losses
3. Some discussion include having active adaptor when using more than 3 displays , what will be you recommendation in this case
4. Any other suggestions for the setup is welcome

AFAIK in the Radeon R9 gen pretty much any card supports 6 concurrent outputs, and there's no need for "at least one active DP adapter for 3 monitors" anymore. Hopefully true Eyefinity aficionados will confirm.
It's a darn shame that official FAQs are so obscure and outdated, and that's true for Nvidia Surround, too...

Would probably want some more insight to confirm

1. Not many card has 4 or 6 HDMI output rather has as many D port
2. For the TV , will there be issues with the Dport-HDMI converter when we run any graphics to support all 6 / 4 monitors using the R9.
3. Alternatively , if we use other eyefinity card with maybe 2 Dport , do we need any MST hub for it to work across the TV's

The easiest way would be via 2x MST hub and 6x dp->HDMI active adapters.
(though not sure if you still need active adapters on the MST hub, never had one)
Not so easy would be 1x MST Hub and 2x DVI +HDMI with active adapters.
If you have a card with outputs like the r9-290.
Another way would be a card with 3 miniDP and 3 times MiniDP to dual HDMI adapters.


If you only want to display videos and no 3d rendering you don't need an overly powerful GPU. So the 2x MST hub variant might be cheaper.

Oh and normaly there are absolutely no problems in converting dp into HDMI or DVI into HDMI.

Got the R9 280 yesterday and setup the Eyefinity for the 2x2 setup (test TV's) in my office. Unfortunately in Singapore , MST hubs aren't available in stores will wait for that to setup the 3x2 later.
