The first public alpha was released on June 24, 2011 and updates have been continually released since. KSP has support for mods, all of which are hosted on the official modding website, SpacePort. It can be purchased through the official KSP Store or, since March 20, 2013, through Steam.
As of December 2014, the game has entered their Beta phase. The game is now "feature complete" with a full career mode but is still being tweaked.

Thanks for the A grades! Being a long-time member of WSGF, the least I could do was ensure my own game would run on super wide resolutions as much as possible.

I don't have enough pixels here to test 4k, and my triple head setup is 3840x1024 (15:4), but theoretically at least, I see no reason why those resolutions would fail.

Are there any hacks to increase the FOV? The side screens are stretched a lot more than I would like. Sure would be nice if KSP had a FOV slider like many games have (but most doesn't allow wide enough even then.)

The 1.0 release on Monday added FoV control! Although it is not a slider, just hold Alt and Scroll with the mouse wheel to adjust while in the flight scene (the only place it is applicable).
Looks beautiful on my 5760x1080 setup using a popup window.
Lots of extra space for all the the Mod UI windows on the side screens as well.
