DP-DVI adapter problem

I have only been 
for about a week now. When I booted up this morning, the monitor connected to the display port through an active DVI adapter was black. No error or anything like that. Is this likely a failed adapter? Hope so, I'm on my way to get another one from a local supplier. Hoping the GPU has not failed.
