Hey all!

I have been around WSGF for a long time however today I decided to venture into the nice world of surround gaming.

Overall, I am very excited about it however there is one thing bugging the crap out of me.


First - Here is my setup...

I am running 1 x 670 Nvidia card(will get 2 when I feel I need it).

I have 2 1920 x 1080 monitors and 1 1920 x 1200 monitor in the center(this was my original widescreen btw still rocks).

Anyways If I set things up in windows everything works awesome. I get expanded displays of total resolution of 5760 x 1080(and 1200 in center).

I am in business right?

Well no... when I go to Nvidia tool and setup surround, everything working great and then I see it changes the overall resolution to 5040 x 1050! ?

Anyways so then I decide to goggle it and look around this forum and everyone seems happy to get this resolution. It's when they don't get it they are upset. So what am I missing? I am sure it is a noob question but I really want to see 5760 x 1080 for my gaming.

As it is right now I can't browse windows at all in this resolution, I need to swap back and forth each time and the stupid tool asks me to close browsers...

Wow do I feel dumb now... 5040 x 1050 is 1680 x 1050 monitors... alright so question is why does it think I am not running high res monitors... hmm.

As far as I know nvidia surround works only when all screens have the same resolution. This is not the case with eyefinity though (you can mix and match). So it might be possible that you need 3x 1920x1080 or 3x 1920x1200. Not using surround myself, so maybe someone else that does can verify this.

Yeah that is what it seems to be.

The thing is the Nvidia website says that they don't have to be same resolution or same native resolution as long as all 3 support an identical resolution. My 1920x1200 monitor does support 1920x1080(infact it has hdmi in as well).

I have tried a few workarounds and such however in the end it seems that Nvidia drivers just aren't up to par. I am currently regret getting the 670 card as my old 5850 crossfire setup ran the 3 monitors without issues.

I found a temporary workaround.

My center monitor supports HDMI. So I used the HDMI cable instead of the display port.

This actually worked beautifully and all 3 monitors showed 1920 x 1080.

The problem now is that my center BenQ FP241w has the original firmware without 1:1 pixel mapping.

I thought I was screwed as I couldn't modify overscan or size via nvidia on surround. Anyways so I turned off surround and did the proper pixel mapping for my BenQ. Looks ok(not perfect) but thought I would then try surround again to see if it would get rid of all my nice settings.

To my surprise, it didn't!! It actually held the overscan rules on the BenQ and now I am running at 5964 x 1080 with bezel correction. I can also do 5760 x 1080 as the recommended setting.


SO... long story short, glad my 5 year old monitor had HDMI, and HOPEFULLY NVIDIA smartens up soon so I can use proper DVI connection.
