Risen 2: Dark Waters - No Eyefinity/Surround Support (yet?)

Risen 2 - the successor to Risen, which worked very well in Eyefinity/Surround except some minor flaws - doesn't support Eyefinity/Surround. It even won't run in these resolutions when manually editing the Config File.

However, I have made some progress in editing one more Config file. The results were still quite disappointing: The game started in 5040x1050 Window mode, videos and main menu were streteched and when trying to start a new game, it crashed.
The Config files seem to be written in LUA, from what I can tell. So this is what I was able to do, I hope someone with more knowledge can progress further:

C:UsersAppDataLocalRisen2ConfigConfigUser.xml
Change your resolution here: (Line 65 for me)

Code: Select all

<Window

            Top="0"
            Right="5040"
            RefreshRate="60"
            Left="0"
            Bottom="1050"
            AdapterNumber="0"
         >

..SteamSteamAppscommonrisen 2datainiConfigDefault.xml
Starting from Line 26 there is a section with common aspect ratios. I added 48x10 aspect ratio:

Code: Select all

<Aspect48x10

           VirtalWidth="1728"
           VirtalHeight="1080"
           EnableDrawScale="True"
         >

Needless to say, I'm very disappointed of this step backwards :(

//*Edit:
Here is a screenshot of the results after editing the .xml files:

Damn it I have been trying as well it just doesn't work, no reg edit and no launcher, those config files just don't work, I may try a bit more but I have almost given up, I think its a dead end.

[Update] I have made progress! 5760x1080 aspect is a bit messed up it may actually work...

5760x1080 in progress

[Update] never mind it will not work through configs, game clearly only knows aspects 4x3 16x9 16x10 5x4 5x3 and the menus in game a totally jacked. Sigh :( another one down, this one going to need memory hacks or a official patch.

official patch ? Rofl Don't

Everything can be fixed:) So even this can be fixed:) Waiting for "another" release type and I will give it a try:) if people are interested:) or maybe somebody else fixes it in the meantime;))

I did that it makes no diff it does not know what that aspect ratio is, the game probably has a list(switch statement or what ever), we need to override the current aspect ratio while playing like the guys do with mem hacks.

First thing's first though.... the annoying Piranha bytes movie must die.

Rename the following and the game will skip straight to the menu.

Love the orginal Gothic series and Risen 1 and disappointed this one does not support multi-monitor res out of the box ... hopefully looking forward to a Helifax / Hayden fix! Many thanks guys, just signed up to say you guys rock - having saved many games for me already (Skyrim & ME3 in particular ;) ) !

BTW here is a graphics fix if you want it pimped with massive draw distances and not much pop up:

Go to you Steam install dir: D:Program Files (x86)Steamsteamappscommonrisen 2dataini

Back up and open the file : ConfigDefault.xml

Look for this section:

ProcessEntitiesEnabled="true"
TemplateLoading="1"
ViewRangeQuality="High"
>

Replace all the values in the tags

With this content here is a example of the one

Item_Small="4000.0"
Item_Medium="8000.0"
Item_Large="12000.0"
NPC_Small="4000.0"
NPC_Medium="8000.0"
NPC_Large="12000.0"
Level_Small="7000.0"
Level_Medium="12500.0"
Level_Large="18000.0"
Object_Small="3000.0"
Object_Medium="9000.0"
Object_Large="14000.0"
SpeedTree_Small="6000.0"
SpeedTree_Medium="14000.0"
SpeedTree_Large="25000.0"
Events_Small="3000.0"
Events_Medium="5000.0"
Events_Large="7500.0"
Effects_Small="3500.0"
Effects_Medium="7500.0"
Effects_Large="12500.0"
Lights="14000.0"
Terrain="100000.0"
>

These values will deck out the LOD, minimal pop up and a bunch of other settings makes it look crazy good. Best thing is use this content for the low, medium and high

One more tweak look for:

Quality="High"
WindBase="1.0"
WindFactor="1.5"
WindBendWeight="0.002"
WindWaveSpeed="2.0"
>
Set all the low medium high ultra to this:

Example

ViewRange="15000.000000"
Enabled="True"
Density="1"
>

I have attached my config file in case you do not want to tweak it your self, not this is max setting ULTRA

Fixed

Hello all,

I managed to Fix the game to run in FULLSCREEN:

- No need of manually editing I don't know what configuration files
- Fixed the correct render on 3 Screens.
- Hud is spanned on all 3 Screens, but with an incorrect AR. (The engine is highly volatile and crashes alot which made it nearly impossible to fix this AR)
- Workaround provided for menus to properly scale them on the left monitor (if for some reason the AR doesn't do it for you)
- Also works with 3D Vision Surround.
- Haven't tested it on Eyefinity but it should work.

How to:

Important:
- Start the game.
- Select from Options the resolution of your 1 monitor Ex: for 5760x1080 select 1920x1080. If this is not done, the game will crash when the fix enabled!!!

Then:
- Get the plugin and put it in WideScreen Fixer/Plugins folder.
- Configure the plugin.
- Start the game.
- The fix stars automatically starts so no need to manually enabled it.
- [b]Once you are in the main menu, ALT+TAB[b] out of the game and back to make it render on 3 Screens.
- Use the workaround key if needed
- Play the game:)

Let me know how it works for you:)

Best Regards,
Helifax
