I am planning on ordering a 79xx card and have a question about which cables to buy. I know that most models will ship with enough adapters to make eyefinity work, but one of the adapters uses the hdmi port and I need that for connecting my tv to my pc. Since my monitors support displayport natively, would you guys recommend buying 2 mini displayport to displayport cables and using the dvi port and hdmi port to connect my third monitor and my tv?

btw. If you buy a XFX Dual dissapation you ONLY have the HDMI-DVI adapter!
Every other retail HD7970 has HDMI-DVI and MiniDP-DVI ! So just one DP cable would be enough.

I was thinking of buying the Sapphire 7950. The cooler is great. Nobody seems to recognize that cooler, but I own two 6950 dirt editions and those coolers look almost the same. I like them even better than a twin frozr.

Anyway, was thinking about buying the two mini displayport cables because I don’t like adapters, and since I need the one to be able to connect my tv to hdmi and thought why not buy two and don’t use adapters at all. Would you guys say that there is any logic to my reasoning (it is ok to say that there is not ;))?

I have just bought that Sapphire 7950 - very, very impressed with the cooler. Playing the Kingdoms of Amalur demo with helifax's eyefinity fix, my old 6970 sounded like a vacuum cleaner but the Sapphire is barely audible above the case fans. It overclocks plenty and stable too.

I think it came with 3 cable adapters - mini-dp to dp, DVI to VGA and one another that might have been mini-dp to HDMI but I can't quite remember.

So I could use the mini dp to dp, since I already have a dp cable. The thing is, I still need another one, because I need the hdmi for tv. Mini-dp to hdmi would't help me, even if it comes with the card. Thanks for the info though and good to here that you like the card.

Already did some overclocking? Can you post your findings? Might not belong in this thread though...

I'm using the Sapphire Trixx utility, tested it at up to 1100/1400 and 1.2v which was stable enough in Heaven but I'm running it 24/7 at 1050/1375 and 1.15v

Do you have to use Trixx for changing the voltage or can you use Afterburner as well? Because the 6950 Dirt Edition(also Sapphire) I have only allows voltage changing via Trixx not AB.

I haven't actually tried Afterburner, used Trixx as it's a Sapphire card and didn't think to try anything else really.

Could you please try if you can change voltage with AB?

I'm at work so can't check right now, however this review specifically tested overclocking and changing voltages using Afterburner so I guess it's a yes :)

Edit: After some testing it seems possible to run my tv of my Integrated Graphics. This means that I don't need any extra cables. I will only buy them when the adapters are giving me problems.

In my last post I said that I don’t need extra cables and I might have been wrong. After some further testing it seems that running 720p or 1080p files of the HDMI port (integrated graphics) might not be such a good idea. The performance (especially the smoothness) is less than perfect. When I use my 7950’s HDMI port all is fine. So I will be buying either one or two mini DP to DP cables. Currently I am using the mini DP to DP adapter that came with the 7950. Do you guys think that a straight mini DP to DP cable would perform better in any way in comparison to the adapter I am using right now? If yes than I will buy two, if no then that would be a waste of money.
