Want to order my first projector. I want LED projector with DLP 3D to use with my 6970
Currently I'm choosing between 1280x800 models Acer K330, Optoma ML500 and Vivitek Qumi Q2 300 , they are in the $500-600 price range with close to similar specs.

My questions:

1. Can I connect it via HDMI for the video and keep using my Sound Blaster X-Fi for the audio with my analog 5.1 setup?
2. Currently I have triple monitors eyefinity setup on 6970, connected via DP-VGA, DVI-DVI, DVI-DVI. With this way of connection (if I'm not wrong) my HDMI port is disabled and there is only 1 port left - display port. So basically do I need to order some mini DP-HDMI adapter? 3. I noticed for the 120hz 3D with these projectors I should use VGA port with res 1024x768, means this is the maximum resolution with 3D, no upscale or something?
4. For the AMD HD3D should I use some special software like http://www.iz3d.com/amd_hd3d_home ?

1. Yes. You select your default sound out on your computer.

2. No, you need an active DP-DVI adapter and a DVI-HDMI cable. There are no readily available active DP-HDMI adapters at this time. DP -> DVI -> HDMI

3. S3D modes are very particular in what modes you can and can't use. You can scale down to lower 120hz resolutions but can't scale up larger than the native S3D 120hz resolution. For instance my GT720 can do 800x600, 1024x768, 1280x720 and 1280x800 120hz but it can't do something like 1920x1080 120hz scaled.

4. No idea. Outside my area of knowledge. I'm used to NVIDIA 3D Vision kit though which is proprietary to only NVIDIA video cards.

2. Well, I believe cheapest way is to disconnect one of my screens on DVI port and to connect it via another cheap mini DP-VGA adapter, after that I believe HDMI port will be free to use.
3. Basically my max res at 120Hz is 1024x768 then? Can you please tell me how good is 3D with your projector at 1024x768 for example?

Also, what if I'll buy second projector in the future and will rotate both to portrait mode and do 2x1 eyefinity (1024x768 x 2) with total res 2048x1536. Will it work?

2. Yes, but that'll require swapping around cables a lot.

3. Native resolution is typically the maximum S3D resolution possible on projectors. Non-S3D resolutions can scale though. You can do 1920x1080 60hz but it won't let you do 1920x1080 120hz.

The thermal properties of projectors are problematic. They're only designed for landscape orientation. You could set your projector to high altitude mode and/or use an LED based projector though. I specifically will not recommend projectors in portrait mode though. Problem with LED based projectors is the lumens ratings are not good at all. I would never suggest using anything under 1200 lumens. I prefer the 2500 lumens on my projectors. 2048x1536 is 2x2L. That is not a portrait resolution. You'll need an edge blending software option in order to properly do it. Frankly, I suggest just using 2 1080p projectors instead of 4 1024x768. The more projectors you use the more bulb cost on consumables and the more persistent alignment issues you need to address on a constant basis.
