Tribes Ascend

Trying to play the Tribes Ascend beta. Using 4320 x 900 for resolution. It accepts that resolution, but the FOV is messed up. How do I fix that? This is an Unreal Engine game if that helps. The one thing I tried was to enter /FOV 136 at the console, but it didn't take.

Thanks...

This game is still in Beta.

This game is still in Beta. I'm sure they have some kind of Betaforum. Why don't you ask the Developers there about FOV and Eyefinity support?

Heard that unreal games often make big problems.

I have a bad feeling about getting any dev support for this.

They're the same guys that made Global Agenda, which was also Vert - and when asked about this, they claimed it was a design decision in the interest of fairness to those without widescreen monitors that the game was a standard FOV for all players.

Widescreen is apparently cheating to them ><

I thought Ascend had an adjustable FOV? So I am sure it multi-monitor could be done.

I've already looked into this.

Surround is not supported. The FOV adjustment does not go anywhere near high enough to be usable.

I contacted support and asked for them to comment on Eyefinity/Surround support and they said they have no plans to.

I'm going to be looking into fixing this game, especially since I've been playing it since day 1 of the beta.

I've been messing with the beta a bit too, and it looks like something I'd definitely play, even if it was only single-mon. But knowing you're going to have a crack at this game makes me happy I might get to play it in triple-wide.

I've managed to fix the FOV and Zoom FOV.

There are still two outstanding issues, though.

1) Weapon FOV is still low. I haven't found a value for this yet since I don't know what the default weapon FOV is.

2) HUD scaling. The scoreboard is huge. The reticles are stretched. All HUD information is missing.

Sounds like you changed the

Sounds like you changed the resolution, but not the FOV. That's exactly what I get when I change to 4320 x 900 resolution. What I need is how to change the FOV to something in the 135-140 degree range. If you know how to do that, pass it along.

No. I changed the FOV.The

No. I changed the FOV.

The other issues are the persisting issues.

Edit:

Here are a few screenshots:

The FOV is 90 and has nothing changed.

The FOV is still 90, but the target FOV has been changed to 132. You can see the level-of-detail changes; this will impact performance.

The FOV is 132.

The weapon FOV is still not fixed so that's why it's large and cut off. The HUD is entirely missing aside from the crosshair, which is off-scale.

Okay, I finally got around to installing and... while the game has some interesting gameplay, it doesn't feel like Tribes... yet an imitation of it.

Resolution selection sucks big-time. I could not even select 1680x1050 for single-monitor gaming. All I have for single-monitor resolution is 800x600... which is already pitiful right there.

No proper support for triple-wide means I better start bugging the hell outta them. Anyone know where and how? Forums? Twitter?

For me DX9 and 10 were disabled by default. I had to go to one of the .ini in The Documents/My Games/Tribes folder and turn them on to get other resolutions to pop up. That at least got me using full screen on one monitor. No luck on getting it to work on Eyefinity though. Super zoomed in, no hud, huge weapon.

Real shame too, the game looks really nice widescreen.

And as for the game itself....levels are too large and players are too small and fast. Someone can zip like a lightning bolt through a base and be half way back home with the flag before the notification that the flag was stolen even pops up. Or I just suck at it.

To me this game is Tribes.

I just got into the beta the other day. I was sad to see this doesn't work but they are planning to make it work later on. I plan to wait until then.

Has anyone bothered looking for the Engine.ini files common with UE3 games to see if it has an AspectRatioAxisConstraint value in it?

Also, while its wonderful that you guys are talking about an up and coming game, what would be even more wonderful would be if someone created a Detailed Report for said game ;) *nudge nudge wink wink kick up the backside*

To get a screen res that is actually native to a monitor you have to change it in the .INI file.

It does not work properly with Eyefinity/Triplehead, as with most Unreal engine games.

It does give me the option for 5760x1080, but your HUD is gone and everything looks bad. I had to change the .INI file back to 1920x1080 just to play properly, and now it clones the game on all 3 monitors.

While it looks annoying, you don't notice it after you start playing the game because of how fast paced it is.

Kinda funny how this game is from "high rez studios" but it isnt so high res after all. Just fired it up and was disappointed to see it doesnt support eyefinity. Screw you unreal engine.
