Hello there.

I'm having a lot of trouble setting up eyefinity after paying all this money for it all. I would appreciate any help in getting it working.

I have a Radeon HD 6950 and three identical Alienware AW2310 monitors (1920x1080 @ 120 Hz). My main (middle) monitor is connected to the dual-link DVI output on the card via a dual-link DVI cable. My left monitor is connected to the single-link DVI output on the card via a single-link DVI cable. This of course only gives me 60 Hz on the side monitor, and it is just a temporary solution(while I wait for a second Mini DisplayPort adapter). I've had these two monitors set up in this way for the past week or so, and it works fine as both an extended desktop and eyefinity 2x1.

Now I have just received my first active Mini DisplayPort to dual-link DVI adapter, and so I'm trying to set up my third monitor on the right. I'm encountering so many problems, even just trying to set them up as an extended desktop. The right monitor (on the Mini DisplayPort) frequently gets set to 640x480, shows up as a Generic P&P Monitor, or turns off entirely -- sometimes the left monitor gets set to 640x480 instead or turns off as well, leaving just the middle monitor. Sometimes the right one does show up as an Alienware AW2310, and with a lot of repeated attempts at disconnecting it from the card and re-detecting the displays, I can finally get all three working as an extended desktop at 1920x1080 each.

I have been unable to get eyefinity working even once, however. I try to set them up in a 3x1 configuration, and every time the right monitor seems to get turned off or set to 640x480.

Please help me get it working. I would appreciate any advice you could offer. Thank you in advance.

Sigh... I'm still having a lot of trouble with this eyefinity setup. I've received my second active Mini DisplayPort to dual-link DVI adapter, so I now have two Apple ones. With some fiddling with detecting displays and so on, I can get all three monitors into 5760x1080. However, there are problems:

[list=1][*]My monitors can go up to 120 Hz each. I followed the advice in this thread and got the Apple adapters, as they do seem capable of handling 120 Hz. In the AMD VISION Engine Control Center, I can choose 60, 75, 100, 110, and 120 as my refresh rates. If I set it to 120 Hz, the screens flicker black for a moment and then it seems fine; everything is super smooth! A minute later, the screens flicker black again and are set to either 60 Hz or 110 Hz; they then remain that way. 110 Hz also seems smooth, so I don't mind this too much... But obviously I would rather have the full 120 Hz refresh rate if anybody has any suggestions.

[*]When I try to set up bezel compensation, the control panel lets me into the area to set it up, with the yellow triangles. However, all four arrow buttons appear to be greyed out. Does this mean it doesn't like my monitors and that I should play with their EDIDs? They are all identical monitors -- Alienware AW2310s -- so that shouldn't be a problem should it? Why can't I set up bezel compensation?

[*]I'm noticing some graphical glitches (tearing?) when dragging windows between the different monitors. It's nice and smooth at 110 Hz, but the edge of the window seems to disappear in places and then slowly fix itself. It's odd and hard to describe. I haven't tried any games yet but the effect is noticeable when dragging windows. Is this tearing? What can I do about it?[/*:m][/list:o]

I've had similar problems with my adapters. General one of two things are happening:

1. The adapter isn't getting enough juice. Go get it a juice box (aka usb wall charger [the iphone one is a really good one]).

2. The adapter needs to be power cycled. This happens to my adapter all the time, i just have to unplug and replug them. It's dumb but my screens go blank or go to 640x480, but power cycling fixes them.

Okay, I solved my second problem (bezel compensation) either by rebooting or by doing a registry tweak; I'm not sure which fixed it.

I solved the first problem (refresh rates getting set back to 60 Hz or 110 Hz) by overriding the EDIDs for my monitors to only have a single supported/preferred resolution and refresh rate. This required me to work out the appropriate new timing values on my own, but it worked in the end. This has also resolved a lot of the flickering issues I encountered, and makes changing display modes (extended desktop, eyefinity) very smooth and easy.

So I now have a working eyefinity setup with three 1920x1080 monitors each at 120 Hz! With bezel compensation, I'm running at 6048x1080. It's pretty cool.

My monitors will occasionally still revert back to 640x480 though, and in those cases your solution of power cycling the adapters fixes it right away. Thank you. I'll look into trying USB chargers sometime.

So glad to hear that you have the AW2310's running at 120hz in eyefinity mode, because im currently attempting to do the same thing.

I ordered 2 of the following http://www.amazon.com/Accell-B087B-003J-UltraAV-miniDisplayPort-Dual-Link/dp/B0030XMREG and will use the DVI-D connection on the 6990 for my main monitor.

After ordering them though (they are still in transit), I stumbled across the manufacturers website indicating they dont support 120hz, which is just great. So Im either going to have to try the monoprice ones or apple, and hope amazon give me a full refund.

My question though is, what kind of performance would I get from running eyefinity in 120hz with the 6990 for playing games like BF3 and MW3 etc?

Im assuming that I will end up having to xfire 6990's to get the most out of the setup, especially if I wanted to play games in 3d which Im really not fussed about, but would like 120hz eyefinity for smooth fps gaming.

Let me know your thoughts.
