What monitors to get for Eyefinity.

Well, I'm getting to the point I'm probably going to be ordering monitors for Eyefinity in the next 2-7 days or so.
I've done quite a bit of research, and have determined with my budget, I have 2 options:
1) Get 3x Asus VH236H's from Newegg. They'd be $160 each shipped, and I could send in for $40 worth of rebates after that.
2) Get 1x Dell U2311H ($280 at Dell right now) for the center monitor, and get 2x Asus VH236H's for the side panels.
Option 1 totals ~$500 with the monitors and the DP adapter I'd need.
Option 2 totals ~$600
I know the Dell U2311H is an IPS monitor, and higher quality overall, which is why I'm considering it, but I don't think I can afford to get 3 of them right now. Would it look very bad/inconsistent to have the U2311H as a center monitor in Eyefinity to the point it'd be better just to go with 3x Asus VH236H's for the sake of uniformity?
FYI I'm running an i7 920 @ 4.0GHZ, and 2x 6870's in Crossfire. My current monitor is a 37" Westinghouse LVM-37w3 which is an S-MVA panel.

It's a tough call. Do you want bezel compensation?...The monitors will need to be the same for that. :?

Really? I didn't know that... I figured as long as they were all the same size, and resolution you could do it... As for whether or not I'd be using it, I don't know yet. It's something I'd have to play around with and decide if I like it or not. I guess if the monitors have to be exactly the same for it to work, I'd probably go with 3x Asus.
I like the idea of things transitioning more naturally, but I don't like the idea of part of the image being "hidden" under the bezels.

The monitors need to be the same for bezel compensation to work in EyeFinity. AMD's rep on the forum did explain why, but I forget exactly - it's to do with EDID reporting to the driver IIRC.

I'm having a very similar predicament right now. Anyone recommend some good monitors in his budget?
Right now I have a 2407WFP. I could probably pick up 2 more 2407WFP's for $400 more but are those good enough for Eyefinity? Is it better to go with what Newegg has on it's site now for $200ish each on 3x?

the other thing to consider when using different monitors is the feeling of 'symmetry' on your desktop.
i ran a mismatched config briefly and it threw me off because one of them was slightly shorter than the others even though same purported size. the resolution of course was the same.
personally, i would get 3 of the same monitors. i have both the TN as well as the IPS ones. Personally, for gaming, I can't tell the difference.

I'm not saying I want 3 different monitors anywhere... just asking if going with Dell 2407WFP's are okay, or is it better to get 3x new monitors on Newegg for $200 each?

If it were my call based only on the options you've listed, I'd go for the ASUS monitors on Newegg. Simply due to them having the HDMI input while the Dell does not. I think you'd be happier in the long run.
Here's why: I have my 3x1 Eyefinity setup using the DP-VGA adapter and then the two DVI inputs on my other two monitors. I also have my XBOX 360 connected using HDMI to my center screen. It's a snap to go from PC gaming to XBOX 360 gaming this way and I never have to leave my chair.

maybe i got the posts confused.
i had (3) 21" 16:9 Dell 2210s.
i went to (3) 24" 16:10 Del 2407s.
I like the 2407s much better. Much higher quality monitor. Also the 16:9 x 3 in landscape mode is too skinny in my opinion .

Ok, well I think I've *probably* made up my mind to get 3x Dell U2211h's... Yeah, they're a little smaller than the U2311H, but at $200 a piece, I can give up 1.5"... Plus, their viewable width almost matches my 37" viewable height perfectly, so if AMD decides to officially allow Portrait-Landscape-Portrait setups, I'd be set to use them with my 37". Even if not, I could play around with it as people have gotten it working running programs/games in windowed mode if I wanted to try.

$200 each from Dell's official Ebay Store
I think it's worth the extra ~$40 over the Asus monitors for their image quality and the fact they have very flexible stands with good adjustment options. Only costs ~$100 more than the Asus monitors would.
HDMI is not a big deal for me at all since I already have a 37" HDTV I use for my consoles, I'll only be using DVI and DP on the Dells.

Uh, i use two different monitor models (see sig) and have never had an issue is bezel compensation... But yes, three matching ones would be nicer. And not so much of a fuss getting the colors to match.

Well it's TN VS IPS. The colors will never match. But having a IPS panels, I can never go back to TN's. (Especially since I'm running 3x1 P)

Ugghhh... I kind of want to go with the Asus now out of spite...
I'm waiting for my paypal verification to go through, so I can order the Dell's at $200 each on Ebay, but I decided to chat with a Dell sales rep from their official site to see if I could get the same deal...
He ended up saying that Dell doesn't even have an Ebay storefront... This sure looks like it to me:
http://stores.ebay.com/Dell
I said if that's not Dell, they might want to get a lawsuit going for impersonation... Lol...
He ended up saying they could discount the monitors to $205 with free shipping... I said ok, then apparently there was some BS where they couldn't discount them because they were already "discounted" to $240 from the normal price...
I said, "What about the U2311H? It's not currently discounted."
He checked on it, and said he could offer it for $270... I said no thanks knowing it has been on sale for $240 recently.
So now I'm wondering if I should just wait on my paypal verification on to get the U2211H's on that Ebay site, or just go with the Asus VH236H's for $160 each each shipped, and get another $40 back in rebates on top of that...
The Asus VH236H's are only on sale for the rest of today, which may only be an hour or two...

Is there a reason you chose the 2211 vs the 2320 or even the 2220?
I'm in the same boat as you.. too pricey to get 2 other 2407W so I'm looking for something in a cheaper range, was thinking 3 x 2320s.
Will it be a big difference going eyefinity with 3x 1920x1080 versus 3x 1920x1200?

Id go with 3 monitors that are the same for multi monitor setups based around using all 3 screens at the same time for the same image.
bezel compensation can be very picky too about the monitors used if they are not the same.
I went 3x Dell U24010 because I wanted the view angle of IPS and the higher quality, but honestly in retrospect it was overkill. You angle the side monitors so the view angle is not so important and the quality I only needed for photoshop & editing. I could have gotten one nice monitor for that and used 3 cheaper monitors for the eyefinity.
No regrets on the purchase though except I had Rev 00 and they had a lot of issues and Dell gave me hell trying to swap them for working monitors. Took forever to match colors and even still my monitors are not perfect (slight pink shift on one, SRGB dithering on all 3)
Never buy a Rev 00 Dell monitor, wait for 2 or 3 revisions to fix the problems they seem to come out with, and if you ever have to get support or exchange I pray you have a better time about it than I did because they were the worst CS in my whole life and I still feel bitter about it even now years later because it was just that bad.

$200 for the 22" is a good place to start.

Thanks, I saw that on Bensbargains yesterday and place my order for 3 of them. Also got my refund from their Ebay site back today... I will say if you're going to go with Dell Monitors just wait til they have a deal on their official site, their Ebay Store's a pain with Paypal.
