I'm sort of surprised this hasn't been released yet, so here is a poll...

Althoguh I dont have 5 matchng screens or any that i run in portrait, it is something i could see myself advancing onto in the future, and it would be nice to have better native support for different monitor configurations from ATI rather than falling back to using SoftTH.

If I had the money, I'd use it.

I think going past 3 screens is a bit ridiculous and silly personally, but support the cards ability to do it. I, after all do not represent all people.

I would, I'd need to buy 2 more 30"rs though.

:O Can you say 20,480,000 pixels!?!?

Well I can pseudo do it and see how performance might be. I have a bunch of 17"rs lying around. Just add 2 to each side in portrait and it's almost like 5x1. Resolution of 6848x2560. Not quite as high as 8000x2560. I might do that tmr, I have nothing better to do, and I got SoftTH working on my system.

I find it rather silly, considering they already have 3xPortrait if they did it right it should be trivial to allow 5xPortrait.

My guess is they haven't released it yet because of performanace scaling issues. Since they can do 3x2, I fail to see the underlying issue with 5x1 as long the pixel width count is less than 8192 wide. Going portrait negates the 8192 cap as an issue though.

Technically speaking, I suppose someone could do NVIDIA Surround or EyeFinifty 3x1 Portrait and do the side two displays with SoftTH to achieve 5x1 Portrait. That's going about things a$$-backwards though.

I'm currently NVIDIA Surround myself, but I would buy a 6900-series card this second if EyeFinity could do 5x1 Portrait. As is, I already own 4x Samsung 245BW. It doesn't take much to find another used $250 245BW to have my displays. For now I'm stuck with 3x1 Portrait on the NVIDIA side of the fence.

My particular example is how EyeFinity could further differentiate themselves from NVIDIA and give more configuration options. As is EyeFinity offers much more flexibility in configuration than NVIDIA does. I would sell off my GTX470's if I could get 5x1 Portrait EyeFinity.

I worked with AMD as a 6800-series launch partner vender and know they can be accomodating if motivated. They were capable of doing custom driver builds for the surround projection setup I did for them at the L.A. launch press event. I'd be willing to show off 5x1 portrait in a projector setup if they wanted to do something like the simulator setup in the future (hint, nint).

My point is we shouldn't have to screw with SoftTH.

Although this did get me looking at SoftTH again. This 2.0 alpha for Win 7 with tons of display options has my attention. My philosophy has always been that if SoftTH can do EyeFinity should too :P

I would, but for NV surround as that was I'll be running soon with 3x GTX 470's :hide

I agree here. All I have wanted to do since eyefinity came about was to run a 5x1 setup. Because Eyefinity never supported it, I kept just upgrading my displays. I think I would still be very comfortable with 5 x u2410's instead of 3 x 3007's. In fact the picture is too big for my taste when running these 3 in portrait mode.

Thanks, it was a head ache to do. Though this kinda made me sad, I wasn't running any real harsh games and i was getting trash frame rates. I know that's a lot of pixels. But It's still weird the result i got. I guess it was because of SoftTH and running games in windows that my performance was leaking out some where.

as the CCC works right now, can I set up a 5x1 portrait just for desktop use, and then have a separate 3x1 portrait profile for CrossFire and Eyefinity for games?

It will be having 3x1 Eyefinity in the middle and have a Screen extended on either side. This is the current way CCC works. It's really stupid actually. It should just be supported, but I nor anyone else for that matter has gotten any ETA or any confirmation that it will be supported at this point. It's really nice to play on, I'll you that, but without support, it kinda sucks.

In Short, yes it works like that.

All right, thank suiken. I'd really like 5x1 portrait for everything, but I spend about 40% of my work day using Excel and Visual Basic, so if i could just extend my desktop for that and still have my center 3x1 for games I'll be a happy dude.

i have my 5 dell 24's and for desktop applications is nothing short of awesome. i am dying to game on 5x1p
i really regret buying the 2 eyefinity cards as i don't believe 5x1p will ever come out. it would have happened by now. i dont think i will be buying radeon again either cause of the lack of reason around this 5x1p. feels like a wasted purchase.

I made a thread about it on AMD's forums if you want your voice to be heard. Go for it.
