I personally feel as though this is a very legitimate question. I understand there are manufacturing constraints and ATI wants to ensure that the "mainstream" boards are in full supply before they move onto the "enthusiast" boards.

That being said there are many normal consumers such as myself out there that are currently in limbo. I've been putting off my new build for a month now waiting for the Eyefinity6.

My setup has been in the newegg basket for over a week. I'm long past the point of research, I'm long past the point of selecting parts. I just keep hoping that I'll log on and there it'll be. Is it today, tomorrow or two months down the road?

I will not buy 2x gpus. It was hard enough to justify almost 2k in monitors (3x 2408wfp 2x lp2465). At this point I can either continue to wait it out, or I can just get the current 5870 with 3 monitors and call it a day. It's not the solution I'd like, I've wanted the 5x1 setup since day one.

I realize that new technology is always "just around the corner". The difference is most manufacturers at least let you know when so you can make an educated decision on if it's worth the wait.

I canceled 2x 5970's for my build from a boutique builder to wait for the 5870Six

Not seeing or hearing about them at CES has a me a bit concerned

Not being funny, but what do we think was powering the Samsung panels? :D

nice to finally read some news on the Samsung thinbezels.

The price tag is kind of high though.
1899 USD ~ 1319 EUR for 3 screens + stand??!

from the specs they look identical to Samsung F2380 which cost 225 Euro a piece and have pretty slim bezels already
same 16:9 300 cd/m2 150000:1 (dynamic) 178 degree 8ms

225*3=675.
That leaves whopping 644 Euro (920 USD) price premium for a stand and 3 displayports.

GG Samsung! the only thing missing to justify such a price tag is the apple logo.

Is it one of these? If so, I'm scared to ask where you plug in the DP cables?

I'm holding out for the Eyefinity6 edition too. I'm running a 3870x2 with a triplehead2go and it's ok. But having 5x1 monitors would just be kickass.
I just hope 5x1 is supported when it's released...

The DisPort is off-shot in the bottom left of the screen, where the rear-bracket is partially visible. ;)

Am i right to assume that a 5870 6 edition will crossfire nicely with a current 3 output 5970 for tri crossfire but ability to utilise the 6 outputs?

If so...yay...and the only issue i can see is if the 6 edition is a 2GB version, which would also be fantastic but will alter my plans.

There have lots of rumors that it will be 2Gig (and why not, to support 6 screens on 1 card... you need 2gig or more)

Just to check. I'm waiting on the "six" as well, could I create two spanned groups, one group being 3 x 1920x1200 and a second group of 3 x 1280x1024...?

That would be interesting, if not I wonder if you could do it with two cards that aren't in crossfire.

I think this is something that is being worked on. The intent would be to create more than one DisplayGroup per board. Of course, one would need to be selected as the primary and game rendering would need to go to that one.

Okay, cheers for that. Actually I thought it was already implemented - thought I saw a screenshot of a setup screen somewhere with the two groups - guess not.

Anyway, I'm wanting it for FSX - main stuff on the three spanned 24" and the three spanned 19" for panels/guages etc. Could still do it with the single span of three and three independent screens I guess, assuming FSX supports all outputs Windows sees.
