U2410 or NEC 2490WUXi-BK?

Well, I have a new option - purchase a new NEC 2490WUXi-BK for about $1100. Or keep the U2410.

Thoughts? Need to decide soon if I am going to return the Dell.

Do you think the extra $500 is worth it for the NEC? This is the old version of the 2490, with the filter (not the newer WUXi2).

TIA.

A couple questions.

Can you afford it? As in the price/performance.

Didn't you just use the sypder stuff on your u2410? Didn't that help a lot?

Does it have DP?

Worth it to go through all the hassle?

Yeah, the Spyder calibration improved it a lot in terms of the overall contrast and color balance. However, I think I'm trying to like this monitor more than it seems to like me.

I was staring at a blank white screen (Google) and I noticed a dark spot near the centre. Wasn't trying to really, I just noticed it.

It's like this monitor is slowly revealing its flaws. I even compared with my old Viewsonic to make sure I wasn't seeing things, and it's there. It's not an easily noticeable spot, but it's there. Viewsonic is perfect, even white, zero blotches.

So...the flaws keep piling up and I'm asking myself why I *upgraded* to a $700 monitor when my trusty 5 yr old Viewsonic that I paid about $300 for is flawless.

Hence the NEC option. I can afford it, it's still a lot of money for a monitor, but I'll pay it if the monitor works, as it should. No more, no less. If you pay $700 for something, it should bloody work out of the box. Period.

Anyway, I'm going to think on it.

This monitor has been the most annoying purchase I have made in a very long time, lol.

I was going to write a user review for it for this site, but I think that one line pretty much sums it up.

I too have those spots on my screen. And plan to get the calibration for the monitor as well, but definitely am going to turn it in when they have the firmware update. Bah...

I don't know, I can't seem to contemplate paying 1000 for a 24" unless I was doing photography. Personally I don't think its worth the money.

that sounds like a backlight (or lack of) issue

again, I must ask the question, for such an expensive screen, is it ready to come to market with all its faults? :(

Maybe that's why there's still no deals for the U2410.. too many flaws in the current rev?

But anyway I wouldn't "upgrade" to a 24" HDTV. That just doesn't make any sense, you can go to a 30" real LCD for that price.
