Crossfire and Intel

I have just realized, after spending an unfortunate amount of money, that my current setup will not work.

I have:
Asus P5E Deluxe, Intel X48 chipset
Intel Q9550 cpu
Corsair HyperX PC6400 RAM
Win7 x64
750W PSU with 4 PCIe powerconnectors
Matrox triplehead2Go

Been running a single 8800GTX with good results, got another one cheap, and upgraded my mobo to the P5E. Then i had to upgrade my PSU. Both the old mobo and PSU was bought late this summer after a CPU upgrade.
So, after being unable to enable SLI on the new system, and a little while on google tells me Intel chipsets are ATI Crossfire only.
Getting fed up and NOT changing the mobo again, I figure I'll go for an ATI solution this time.

So, will two 4890 X-fired work on this system?
How is the ATI triplehead support?

Anybody want a pair of 880GTX real cheap?

Yes crossfireX 4890 will work with TH2Go.

but getting a 5870 would probibly exhibit more flexibility, you could sell the TH2Go, and get a 5870 for probibly same performance as 4890 xfire, with less power consumption and fewer fps problems (because of lack of dual gpu scaling)

yes he could while keeping in mind that the matrox solution even if it's hard to setup is not new
while eyefinity is pretty new & like all new things has its share of stuff up for debugging just a quick look at the eyefinity forum shows a couple of issues here and there.
