I was able to confirm that BF Heroes is VERT- in handling widescreen, which is not too surprising given how DICE, as a developer, is lacking in sense. It should be noted that development for the game started quite a while before they even bother to consider widescreen. The game itself is based off of the same engine used in BF2/2142 and, as a result, widescreen was never implemented until much later in the game's life.
Battlefield Heroes is based on an older build of the BF2142 engine. The BF2142 engine is a modification of the BF2 engine. BF2 was available when widescreen was not popular at all, so widescreen wasn't a consideration. Over time they just updated an old engine and it didn't get widescreen support until recently. Since Heroes is on an older build, it doesn't have the changes merged over. I wouldn't say DICE is lacking in sense at all. It's just an old game engine.
I would not count on DICE to consider implementing proper widescreen until after a year after its public availability (which was June 25, 2009). And given how they handle development resources, I don't expect people will get the update until Winter 2010. And by then I expect that they have some lame excuse in saying that they ran into issues which won't be out until April 2010.
I imagine it's a different set of developers within DICE that are working on Heroes. They'd have to look over the changes between the engines and merge whatever it is between the two. Then they will have the QA period, which is the longest period of any patch, update, or whatever. QA is controlled by the publisher, and EA is known to have ridiculously long QA times. Chances are it won't get merged over for awhile. They are making a lot of money off of the micro-transactions, though, so they could probably dedicated more resources to it, but honestly there's more important things that need fixed at the moment.
sixshot, I don't know how long ago you were in the beta, when I joined the closed beta nobodys level was reset and we didn't have any funds to use for free other than the Valor Points that are accumulated by playing/leveling...
You agreed to and signed an NDA to participate in the beta. You are violating that NDA by mentioning this information. Keep that in mind for future beta tests that have NDAs.
I could probably update Widescreen Fixer to work with Heroes fairly easily, but at the moment there's just not much of a demand for it.
